If there is already another board that speaks on this topic, I truly appologize in advance. :)

Catherine Willows has had a "Tough Life". There was alot that she went through to become the CSI we know and Love. Then she finds out (In a strange way) that one of the most powerful men in Las Vegas is her father.
This board asks the opinions of the CSIfile members on this relationship. How do you feel about Sam Braun, Catherine, and her Mother. Is there love there? Respect? Hatred? Do we see some sincere redemtion on the part of Sam (Who lost both of his sons: one murdering the other and going to prison)?

you mean one murdered and the other going to prision for murdering him? I don't like Sam, nor Cath's mom. The whole CSI background thing seems too.. I dunno... out there. Griss: Dead Dad
    Sara: Psychiatric mom
    Greg: Uhm, Greg?
Nick: Box, if I say any more I might scare him
    Cath: Family
Rick: Gambling roblem, but I guess that doesn't count, coz it's Vegas. Otherwise, theres more.

Yes that's what I meant, I couldn't get the wording right.
I know what you mean about some of the "Sad Back-Stories". Sara's is probably the most horrific one so far. As for Sam, I've heard mixed things. Most are bad, but some people tell me they think he truly loves his daughter and that her relationship with him could be beneficial in some ways.
Just when you want to HATE him, he goes and gives Catherine the ransom money for Nick with very little or no questions asked. This is why I wanted more opinions, I find it hard to like him, too, but he sure has that ability to keep you guessing.

Apologies. Tricky fingers and lack of coffee on my part. The Mods will move this thread back to LV Forum. Hang on a tic.

    Cheers.

A shipper is when someone supports a certain ship. For example, Yo!Bling is a ship, Warrick and Catherine, and if you like that relationship, you would be a Warrick/Catherine shipper, aka Yo!Bling supporter. Sometimes I call it a Warrick/Catherin shipper a Yo!Blinger. Do you know the ships?
Here they are (or the ones that I'm aware of):
    Grillows (Grissom and Catherine, Grissom+Willows)
    Sandle (Sara and Greg, Sanders+Sidle)
Snickers (Sara and Nick, not sure how to describe this one, but I know it has Nick in it!)
Yo!Bling (as I described above, Yo! for what Warrick says a lot and Bling for episode 2 when Cath was on the phone trying to sound 'hip')
I can't think of any more, and sorry if you already knew these.

    Enjoy the site!

That is so funny! Like Relation-SHIP? I'm a dork, what can I say? Thank you so much for breaking it down for me.
I keep seeing this Snickers thing and I'm like "The Candy Bar?"
ROTFLMAO That is so funny, I thought I was the only one who thought it was THAT funny. I love this message board. You people are all funny, and very cool. Thanks again. :)

Hmmm...I don't really know how I feel about Sam. And I don't think Catherine knows how to feel about him either. I don't think Same is completely bad, he just seems to have a rather "old Vegas" view of the world. I don't remeber if it was ever clear whether he killed anyone. His morals are skewed in a lot of ways, but he clearly cares about Cath. Giving her the money for Nicks ransom like he did really does make it difficult to hate him.

I don't think putting Sam as her father makes her any weirder than the other characters. The writers create messed up histories for the sake of drama; it's just the way of dramatic TV. They're still being nicer to Catherine than they are Horatio on Miami, so it doesn't bother me yet.

I know what you mean. I was asked this same question by a friend of mine just the other day, and it really made me think. So I thought I'd post it and get some opinions. :)

I love Sam Braun. I know that he isn't completely innocent, but after seeing their scene in Kiss Kiss Bye Bye I think he had mellowed down. Perhaps he realized that he's not getting any younger, so he ditched his young chicks and went for Lily.. after losing his two sons, I think he realized that he wants a family more than ever so he's trying to build a bridge between him and Catherine. From their scene in KKBB, I think Catherine is already accepting Sam Braun in her mom's life.

Grudgingly. I think she's accepting Sam for her mom's sake. Overcoming all her conflicted feelings about Sam is going to take time, and good behaviour on Sam's part from now on. Can he manage that? I don't know.

Sam is an interesting character, I find. A great counterfoil to the upfront, upright CSIs. He provokes them and challenges them. Being cast as Catherine's father simply adds spice to the mix. But even without that, Sam represents in a way those who stand on the side of the lawless. I love him!

well, personally i love sam. he's so multi-dimensional. (excuse me, my spelling muse has left me for the night). he does have his dark side, but it is strictly business.

when it comes to cath, i think we saw in burked that they had a good relationship. he was a father figure to her. he even took her as his "date" to casino openings, opening his world to her.

after itb though, cath was full of anger because he was her father and had never told her. from this point forward she has not been friendly towards him. she only went to him during gd because she knew he was the only person who could provide them with the ransom money.

now, after kkbb i think we'll see something different. sam let her know real quick that had she not been his daughter he wouldn't be tolerating her behavior (ie having him pulled over) and sam still has the pull to carry through a threat like that. but, at the end we see cath joining both her parents, knowing the truth, for the first time. not an easy meal but it was a start. i would love to see a followup to this before the end of the season.

    Hello,
I am so glad to have some input on this topic. And you all make such good points. I couldnt agree with you more about the "Love/Hate/Admire/Fear" thing Sam Has. It's that Old School, intelligent Gangster with a heart Vibe, plus He's Catherine's father, (So you hope that she will have an influence over him somewhat, by being a positive law abiding example that is).
Of all people to make Sam's DAughter, The writers could not have chosen a better character: Street Smart (So she can see through all of Sam's B.S. moments), and Compassionate (So she can protect her mother heart, and her own heart from loving Sam too easily), and last but not least, her integrity (so that she can deal with Sam's Lawlessness).
I don't know about you, but this Character "Sam Braun" is not only multi-dimentional, but he brings out the depths of Cahterine and reveals her multi-dimensions as well.

You all Rock!! thanks again for taking the time to read and respond, and share your thoughts with this "Newbie". :)

PS. I agree with you, I too would like to see more of this, I actually think it could work, and imagine how nice it would be for Catherine's daughter Lindsay to have a Grandpa.
Family is Family, no matter how mixed up or crazy or GANGSTA!!   (That was me tring to be hip Bling! Bling!) :D

I like the twists & turns in the Cath/Sam relationship.
It was so good in the beginning ("Burked").

Cath viewed him as a great family friend, someone she could rely on. When she found out at the same time that he was her father AND a killer, it was like a one-two knockout punch. She had to view her relationship with him in a different light (as her father), which I don't think would have been bad in her eyes. But I belive the biggest blow was learning he killed someone. It was one thing she couldn't forgive (or forget).

Through it all, Sam hasn't changed his feeling toward her, which I think is great. He gave her the ransom money, and at the same time acknowledged publicly that he was her father (at the table with Tony & Frank). He gave her the $250,000 - which I guess I didn't consider a bribe. I considered it a gift from dad to daughter to help make her life a bit easier. (although I'm sure there are a few strings that he can pull with it yet)

Now, the continuation of his relationship with her mother... I'm glad to see that Cath is at least giving him a chance...for now. We'll see what happens when he gets himself in hot water again.
