1. POSITIVE

When Calleigh got home after a busy day at the lab, she noticed the door of her apartment was forced open.

She had been busy for two hours to match all thirty-four bullets of a crime scene at someone's poolparty and when she had finally finished, late in the afternoon, Alexx had walked into Firearms and had brought her six additional bullets she had retrieved during autopsy. Calleigh had sighed and had concluded that not all of the bullets were from the same gun. There were twenty-nine thirty-eight millimetres and eleven fifty-one millimetres and some of the bullets that had been recovered were pretty much damaged beyond recognition. It had been hard to tell exactly how many firearms had been used and to match, because some bullets didn’t look quite identical to the other.

Calleigh took her gun and pushed the door open with her foot. Someone had turned her whole apartment upside down and had definitely been looking for something. She took a few more steps into the kitchen. No one was there. She lowered her gun as she took out her phone.

*Horatio.*

"Horatio, someone broke into my apartment..."

*I'll be right there.*

When Calleigh turned around; she heard a noise in the bathroom. She slowly pulled her gun up into position and moved in the direction of the hallway.

Nothing.

Unknown arms flew around her, grasping her tightly in their hold. "No!" She heard her gun hitting the floor with a smash and felt breathing on her neck and hands roaming. Calleigh knew in a flash what was going to happen. "No, don't! My baby..."

She tried to fight her attacker, but she just couldn’t. He was just too...-

After Speed's death, Horatio and Calleigh had become closer than before. They both had been forced to oversee the dangers of being cops. Barely two years after Speed’s funeral, Eric had been shot and there had been a chance to loose him too. Horatio had always been very protective of Calleigh, but she had been able to keep holding on every time.

When Horatio had returned from Brazil, she had admitted she had missed him and told him she had been scared something was going to happen to him while he was out there. One day after the end of shift, Calleigh had asked him to have Chinese at her apartment and Horatio had agreed. When it rolled around to one in the morning, he decided to go home. Calleigh had asked him to spend the night with her and there, lips had found each other. Horatio had put her on the kitchen counter and had deepened the kiss. When she had been searching for his zipper, he had pulled away and had asked her if she really wanted this and her answer had been: "Make love ...to ...me, Handsome"

Only a couple of weeks later, Calleigh had fainted at the lab and Natalia had been very concerned about her. When she had finally succeeded in helping Calleigh to her feet, Ryan had come in and asked her if everything was okay. She had looked very pale and when she was about to go to the ballistics again, she had nearly passed out for a second time. Ryan had advised her to go home and Natalia had agreed and had offered to take her, but she had been stubborn, like she always did when someone thought she couldn’t handle her job. She had told them she was fine and had walked out the DNA lab. On her way to ballistics, she had crossed Eric and had yelled: "I’m fine!" When he had noticed her face and opened his mouth to say something about her paleness, the tears, and anger in her eyes.

Calleigh felt hands unbuttoning her blouse heading for her bra.

When it had been time to go home, Horatio had asked her if she had a few minutes. Eric had told him how she had yelled at him without any good reason. Calleigh had told him her cycle was a bit late; it had been six weeks ago when she had had another period.

"Maybe you should go to Alexx for a pregnancy test."

Calleigh’s eyes had widened, because she hadn’t thought of the chance of having a baby inside her womb. Horatio had looked pathetically. She had nodded, had told him not to move and ran out of his office. When she came back after thirty minutes, Horatio saw that she had definitely been crying. Her cheeks were wet, her mascara, and eyeliner were gone. She looked more like a panda then the beautiful, kind woman she usually was.

***

"No!" Calleigh screamed, "My baby... Don’t!"

***

Horatio’s gaze had been very concerned and also a bit scared... Calleigh felt like he looked the same way Eric, Ryan, and Natalia had, but when Horatio did she could buy it. Horatio had not only been concerned, but even understanding; something the others couldn’t show. She looked at Horatio and the lieutenant had understood.

Day-shift was nearly over and no one would notice them leaving a little earlier. On their way to the garage, no word was said. Not even in the Hummer, until Calleigh spoke up.

"What if I really am pregnant?"

"It doesn’t matter, Sweetheart, I won’t love you less. But I just can't love you more than I already do by now."

When they arrived at Horatio’s, Calleigh had immediately headed for the bathroom. About a fifteen minutes went by, until she came back into the living room where Horatio sat onto the couch, nervous.

"Calleigh?"

"I’m really too upset to...-"

"Calleigh, everything’s going to be fine; whether you are positive or not, I’ll be there..."

"If something’s turning blue, I’m negative and if that stick changes to red..."

She couldn’t finish her sentence. Horatio took the pregnancy test and turned it around, so he could see the round in the middle of it.

Red.

"Calleigh, I think you are positive..."

She had immediately reached out for Horatio and when she fell into his arms, tears had welled up in her pure green eyes for the third time that day.

She hated to look unstable or broken in any other way in the company of the guys she worked with. She had always been hiding her feelings and had always kept everything inside. But if there was one person she believed in and trusted with every part of her being, it was definitely Horatio. They were both the same kind of workaholics and both as dedicated to their jobs at the lab.

Lieutenant Caine had soothed and hugged Calleigh and had quietly been moving his hand up and down her back, until she had given up crying. When he didn’t feel tears wetting his shoulder anymore, he pulled back to see Calleigh’s devastated and confused face.

He had laid one of his hands across her belly and had asked her what she wanted to do. He had told her that it was okay if she wasn’t ready for it and he won’t be mad at her for her honest response.

"Horatio... I love you and I meant every word I have said the other day, it felt right… you making love to me and for only one time, it felt like it wasn’t only having sex. I always wanted you to be the one that...- I really don’t care about having a bit more weight or getting as big as a balloon or something, but this little one inside my womb," Calleigh told him as she laid her right hand upon his, "came so very unexpected and everyone’s going to blame me for putting the life of my baby in danger..."

"No one’s going to blame you and if anyone does, that someone who can have a word with me!"

Calleigh laughed a bit, as he gave her a little smile.

"I definitely wanna have this baby..."

After Calleigh and Horatio had found out they were going to be parents in several months, Horatio had insisted on both keeping their respective apartments, because he was quite sure Calleigh would need her space. Naturally, Calleigh had argued about it, but on the inside, she knew he was right. And it didn’t mean they weren’t together for a good time of the day.

Calleigh sometimes told him that turning positive after only one time being together, was maybe a sign they were made for each other and meant to be together and have a baby. Then they both laughed and got back to business.

Calleigh still remembered how the baby had suddenly moved after firing her gun while she was on the firing range in the lab. It had been funny, because Horatio had walked in when it happened and when he saw Calleigh reaching out for her belly, he had thought she was going to loose the baby and having a miscarriage. But when Calleigh took his hand and held it on her womb, the baby didn’t move anymore.

And when she got a lot bigger, she refused to put aside her high-heeled boots. But, when she hit twenty-four weeks, she changed her mind and stopped wearing heels.

After six months of pregnancy, Horatio had shared his doubts with her. He didn’t want to hurt the baby or her while having sex or even only making love. But since Calleigh hadn’t fainted or thrown up anymore after three months of pregnancy, she had been a little obsessed... Horatio had been concerned about pushing too hard and every time, Calleigh had asked him not to worry and told him everything was fine.

***

But nothing was fine anymore. She was laying there on the carpet, leaning against the wall. Raped, bleeding, and having labor pains.

***

Once, it had been a peaceful day at CSI and Calleigh and Horatio had been able to leave in the afternoon. They had decided to have pizza at Horatio’s. It had ended making love in the bedroom and without a word; they had also decided Calleigh was going to spend the night there with him.

She always preferred laying her head on his chest and having Horatio’s arms around her while sleeping. But when the baby had began to move in her womb in the middle of the night, she had reached out too quickly and had accidentally kicked Horatio out of his bed.

***

'Hurry, Handsome', Calleigh thought, when she all of a sudden heard someone pushing aside some broken pieces of what once had been a beautiful set of blue candles Alexx had given her for her birthday, two years ago.

When he was sure the living room and kitchen were clear, he went in the direction of the hallway. There, he noticed Calleigh in a very uncomfortable position. He didn’t think of anything else anymeore.

"Horatio?" she whispered.

"Calleigh!"

He put his gun back and kneeled beside her, he noticed a smudge of blood.

"Horatio, I’m havin' the baby right now..."

"No..."

Horatio looked totally confused and was determined to get this creep who had done this to her and to have him punished too.

"Aawwww..."

"Are you sure these are really labor pains?"

"Yes! And if you actually think it’s painless... I don’t mind switchin'..."

"Sweetheart..."

"God, this really isn’t somethin' I wanna do every day!" Calleigh yelled.

"I forgot to charge my mobile," Horatio told her, "Don’t panic... I’ll be right back!"

Now, the lieutenant cursed himself for not having charged his mobile, now he desperately needed it. And even more for his own stubborness. When Calleigh had called him, he had immediately wanted to get to her. He hadn’t brought back-up, because he had thought he could handle it alone in the first place. Also because it concerned Calleigh and he knew she didn’t want too much fuss. And he hadn’t wanted to get her upset in the last stages of her pregnancy.

"Hurry!" Calleigh answered.

But when Horatio stood up quickly and headed for her kitchen to call, Calleigh got very hard pains. Her back hurt like hell. She knew she couldn’t handle it alone and it would take a couple of minutes.

"Horatio!" she yelled as hard as her voice allowed, "Don’t go, I don’t need anyone else, I need my lieutenant with me!"

He turned around and ran back towards her. He weaved her arms around him and pulled her close, so she could lean upon him when she needed to.

"Everything's gonna be alright..."

Horatio really didn't know what to do. Calleigh was going to have the baby and Lieutenant Caine didn't know what to do.

"This pain is... aw-awful," Calleigh moaned as tears wetting her eyes.

When Horatio began to remove his arms, she painfully whispered: "Don't let go..."

"But I'm afraid I'll cause you even more pain."

"It can't be worse..."

"Calleigh... I don't want cause you any more pain,” Horatio repeated.

"Don't let go..." Calleigh weakly breathed.

Her back really hurt and not only did her back, but only the thought of the loss of Horatio's hold on her caused more. She turned around in Horatio's arms in a need to find a way to feel less pain. As she sat there on her knees, she tried to keep more tears at bay. Then, an acrid taste filled her mouth.

Horatio rubbed her back in big soothing circles and tried to give her a more comfortable feeling.

"That's a lot better...- oooohh"

Only two weeks ago, when Calleigh got a good eight months, Alexx had given her the advice to sit down every now and then, when it was possible. For only one time, Calleigh had followed her advice and now this happened...

"GOD!" Calleigh yelled, "This is a nasty one."
