CSI Files
Captain
Since its release last Tuesday, the first season DVD set of CSI: Miami has garnered several positive reviews which have included praise for the actors and the quality of the audio and video of the set.
Gord Lacey at TVShowsonDVD awarded the set a 9/10 for both video and audio, but only a 4/10 for extras. Lacey calls CSI: Miami a "show that was meant for DVD." He describes the anamorphic widescreen image as "almost flawless" and praises the look of the show: "The cinematography is great in the show, and everything from the bright colors, to the blow-out shots of beaches, look superb in this transfer." Lacey finds the quality of the audio equally high, commenting that "This is a show that sounds as good as it looks."
Lacey also praises the work of lead actor David Caruso, who portrays Horatio Caine. "It's nice to see David Caruso back in a police uniform. He was so good on NYPD Blue, and his acting shines here as well," Lacey notes.
Sheldon A. Wiebe at EclipseMagazine.com also lauds Caruso's performance:

Over the course of the first season, David Caruso reaffirmed his ability as one of television’s best actors. Horatio Caine is a man who is as driven as Gil Grissom, but for entirely different reasons – which explain their different approaches. Caruso makes Caine’s empathetic but no-nonsense nature extremely likable. It’s also easy to see why his team is loyal to him.
[/list]
Wiebe also had praise for the other cast members, calling Emily Procter's Calleigh Duquesne "enthusiastic, intelligent and possessed of a quirky sense of humor" and Khandi Alexander, who plays medical examiner Alexx Woods, "wonderful."
Overall, Wiebe awarded the set a B+ for the episodes, taking the grade down a few notches for the addition of Kim Delaney to the cast, a move Wiebe calls a "pretty big flaw." However, he rates the extras an A grade, finding the commentaries "entertaining" and the tours "enlightening." Overall, Wiebe gave the set an A- grade.
