Pop with Cane Sugar/ other carbonated drinks

I was just wondering, has anyone tried Pop (Soda, Coke, etc) with real cane sugar, not that High Fructose Corn Syrup stuff? I've heard about it, and I've always heard that you can get it imported from Mexico or other countries. I've also heard it's available around Jewish Holidays like Passover, because corn products aren't considered Kosher. (I don't quite understand Jewish eating law, myself, that's just what I've heard.

I've always wanted to try it, especially Dr. Pepper, because I heard it's much, much better than the stuff with HFCS. I'm sure a lot of the older board members know what I'm talking about, because I hear that they switched the sugar for HFCS in the late 70's/early 80's.

I just had some Goose Island Orange Cream Soda, made with sugar, that I found at Aldi's. It was incredible; better than any orange soda I remember since I was a kid. Swear, it tasted just like one of those Orange Creamsicles. A&W made some kind of "Floats" that were combined Root Beer or Orange with cream...Those weren't half as good as this.

I know there are a couple of bottling plants that make Dr. Pepper with the cane sugar, but it's hard to find out of limited distribution area. The most famous is probably the Dublin plant in Dublin, Texas.

They do do mail order, I'm just wondering if anyone has tried that. I'm also curious if anyone knows anyplace to get that or any other pop made with pure cane sugar in the Chicago Area, most notably the Indiana side of the border, especially the Calumet Region.

Also, is there a particular pop or "Soda" or "Coke" as some people call it that you like best?

Me, I like Dr. Pepper, Canada Dry Ginger Ale, and Sprite/7UP. Cream Soda is good, as is some brands of Orange...I also like Arizona Iced Green Tea, and this company called Bolthouse Farms makes this tasty soy vanilla chai and other fruit smoothies and lemonade that's delicious.

In Canada they have this soda company called Jones Soda, and they make a lot of their sodas with cane sugar. I love Jones Soda and all the flavors that I've tried (so far), and I think that making it with cane sugar is a great idea. It's a lot better for you than other types of sweeteners, and it tastes awesome too.

I don't know if they have Jones Sodas in the US or anything, but I just thought I'd mention it. A lot of their flavors are made with cane sugar, and as I was reading your post all I could think of was "Jones Soda!"

Here's the link, and you can order online

Just a question: Is Jones Soda in the US as well as Canada?

Anyways--my favorite flavors of pop would be Coke, Sprite, Orange, and Cream Soda.

When I went to Mexico, all they had was soda with cane sugar. It's soooo much better! The only kind they sell in the US (I believe) is Jones Soda. And they don't sell that everywhere. :(

It tastes better and it's better for you, so I don't see why they can't just switch it all!

As far as favorites goes: I like Dr. Pepper, but I heard it gives you stomach ulcers, so I'm being paranoid about that. I usually get Sprite or whatever. I like Ginger Ale, but no one here other than grocery stores have it. Argh.

Yes, they are carried in my local supermarket. And I have seen, but not tried, their holiday flavors in a department store. Some of the unusual flavors sold around Christmas and Chanukah are Turkey and Gravy Soda, Egg Nog Soda, Apple Sauce Soda, Christmas Ham Soda, Sugar Plum Soda, Chocolate Coins Soda, and more. For Halloween, they have had Monster Mojito Soda, Lemon Drop Dead Soda, Spider Soda, Gruesome Grape Soda, and Candy Corn Soda.

Though I don't recall ever having any soft drinks with cane sugar, I happen to guzzle soft drinks day and night. Among my favorites are Cherry Coke, Mello Yello, Mountain Dew, Ginger Ale, Coca Cola, Pepsi Cola, Dr Pepper, Mr Pibb, Sierra Mist, Sprite, black cherry, grape, and orange, among others.

I don't like soda, I only drink water.

Well, That's probably healthier anyways. I try to limit my intake to one or two cans/bottles per day. Especially b ecause of the HFCS in it.

When I was googling, I found that you can find the imported stuff that has sugar in it at some Mexican carnicerias around. There was a message board where people were posting places around L.A. where you could get it.

I've heard of that! I'm curious to try that as well. I think you can find it some places here in the States. I'll have to check that out. I've heard some really good things about it.

I do agree that the pop with sugar over the HFCS stuff tastes a lot better. And yeah, it's better for you, too.

^ Jones Soda is amazing, definitely try to find some. I practically lived on the stuff in highschool. :p (Not the healthiest but it made my spares into something to look forward to. :D) I've never tried their holiday drinks but my favourites are Green Apple, Fufu Berry, Peachy Keen, Cream Soda and Berry Lemonade.

Heh, you're one of the few people I've encountered that actually likes Ginger Ale. All my friends think it's only to be used when one has an upset stomach but I have no problem drinking it whenever.

Sprite, Dr.Pepper and Pepsi are my favourites but I'm pretty partial to A&W Rootbeer too.

Yeah, so many people I know can't stand Ginger Ale. They say it makes them puke....Me, some brands are better than others. Canada Dry is the best, but Segram's is okay. Others, like Schweppes are just nasty, IMO.

Never heard Dr. Pepper give you ulcers. I have heard that any caramel colored pop can eat away corrosion and rust, though. That's rather disturbing...but, oh well.

When I was in NYC I was at some burger joint (called Good burger!! HAHHAHA!) and when I was going to get my drink I saw Ginger Ale, and I was like, "Hey cool!!!!!! No one ever has this!"

It was exhilarating. lol...just kidding

I forgot about Root Beer. I looove that stuff. All my friends hate it, but I think it's great.

i didnt know jones soda used cane sugar. i love it, but dont get it often. my favourite is strawberry kiwi.

and i love gingerale! canada dry is the best (not biased at all.... ;)) the strong gingerales, like vernors, are horrible. i find it funny that people say it makes them puke, because ginger cures nausea  i always have gingerale if i have an upset stomach.

I've had Jones' Soda!! I love the labels. They have some really cool ones on Halloween.

I think I've only had the green apple flavor.

I'm addicted to Coke. (Trying to get away from it to lose some weight.)

Sprite and Stewart's Orange and Creme are some of my other favorites.

I think I've had the Arnold Palmer once, In North Carolina. It's Iced Tea and Lemonade, mixed. Interesting flavor. Comes in one of those tall cans, like Arizona Iced Tea uses.

:)
