CSI fans who can't wait for CSI: New York's September 22nd premiere date will get a sneak peek at the set tonight.
Newsmagazine Entertainment Tonight's Mary Hart took a tour of New York's morgue set with Gary Sinise (Mac Taylor) and Melina Kanakaredes (Stella Bonasera) as her guides. The stars revealed that like their characters, they share a deep mutual respect for one another.
"It's just wonderful working with Gary," Kanakaredes told Hart. "He is from Chicago and my husband is from Chicago. There is just a family feeling you get when you meet someone and you just click automatically."
Sinise was equally enthusiastic about his co-star. "She is great to work with. We are having a blast," he said. "She had her own show for five years, she knows the thing and she is a great actress. The chemistry is good between the two of us."
Both stars told Hart that they bring their children to the set. Sinise even confessed that his children had seen the behind-the-scenes workings of the morgue. "I always enjoy the corpses walking around in their robe and slippers," Sinise said. "My kids do, too. (He has three, ages 15, 13 and 11.) They come to the set and there will be a corpse with a scar across his face walking around. Just walking in the robe. It kind of takes the sting out of it because it is kind of gruesome."
Sinise also commented on the charity he started, Operation Iraqi Children, which helps bring in funds for U.S. soldiers to rebuild Iraqi schools. "It is a wonderful way to build bridges between the Americans and the Iraqis," Sinise said. "What you don't see enough of is good news, but there is a lot of good things happening over there on a daily basis. We just get the bombings, the insurgency and the problems. I'm in touch with dozens of people there all the time who are doing good work and making progress."
