Noooooooooooo!!! They lost to House....*starts sobbing like crazy* Looks like CSI: Miami lost the title of "Most Watched Show In The World"...*sighs*:brickwall: :( :scream: :( :scream: :brickwall: Better luck next year...

Funny that it happened when the show "jump the shark" in the last season. But the first 3 seasons were gold.

Hey,At least it was not Grey's.

I so knew it was going to happen :shifty:. It was inevitable also thanks to all the promotion Dr. House has especially in my country. I mean in Italy unless you watch Dr. House, you're not going to get the chance to know and watch anything else about the other shows....it's all about Dr. House.
Ok Hugh Laurie is a great actor and it's a great show, but it's not the only one ;)

As for CSI:Miami it was still inevitable that it was going to lose viewers. Surely, jumping the shark didn't help the show, at all, IMHO.
Hopefully, they'll learn this lesson ;)

I agree Flo!!! Here in Italy there is the "Housemania" :shifty:
Anyway, as for CSI:Miami it was just inevitable I mean the show it's always been my fav, but is too far from the way it used to be:(

I meant that House "jumped the shark" in the last season with the romance between him and Cuddy, not Miami. But I am not surprised becouse House is addicting and a much better show then all CSI with the exception of Vegas.

I am under the impression that House ratings were down in the US now so I guess must people atre just watching the last season still.

Oh ok. Still my opinion remains the same. CSI:Miami jumped the shark, same thing was done with Dr. House. Though, I still think that Dr. House's jump worked much better than the one from CSI:Miami ;)

Trust me, in the USA House is not getting the same promotion he's getting abroad. Come to Italy and you'll see ;). I mean it's the only US tv shows which gets at least one article per week in the Italian TV Magazine since its very first episode. It's just crazy, IMHO.

ok am i been stupid??

what does jumping the shark mean? i've seen it a few times and nodding my head smiling and reading on is not working any more?

debs x

Producers and writers "jump the shark" whenever they come up with a very odd storyline or development for one (or more) of their characters in order to improve ratings. It can work out, as it can't do it. It all depends on how TPTB are able to handle it.

Some example are, as mentioned before:
- Cuddy and House romance for Dr. House
- Danny's ghost as symptom of Izzie's cancer for Grey's Anatomy
- D/L for CSI:NY
- Grissom and Sarah for CSI:Crime Scene
- Eric and Calleigh's romance, Marisol's cancer, the mole and other stuff like this on CSI:Miami

Hope it helped :D .

As I mentioned before the news of House beating CSI:Miami is due to both the jump of the shark (House or CSI:Miami is the same) and the promotion these shows get woldwide ;)

The original usage came from the sitcom Happy Days, which in one episode had the Fonz jump over a shark (was he on a motorbike at the time?)
People believed it was a sign of the shows downward slide in quality.
Since then the phrase 'to jump the shark' has been taken as a sign that a show has passed its peak quality wise.
The only thing is, few people will ever be able to agree just what the 'shark jumping' incident or episode was!

Flo,After Speed died ,this is my first season watching CSI Miami weekly but from what I can see the show is sort of always jumping the shark. House is something else becouse my expectations are higher. One is for entertainment while the other is something I obssess over and over. And to have a similar storyline to Grey's i(Amber ghost)is a shame.

Totally agree with you. But at least House jumping the shark wasn't that bad.
I mean CSI:Miami has been jumping the shark in such a bad way lately, even since s3 ;)

So yeah it doesn't surprise me at all that people think that other shows are much more serious than CSI:Miami 'cause that's what it is. CSI:Miami is just an entertaining show while Dr. House, for istance, is a much more serious one.
I really don't know how House's jump of the shark was (yeah probably I'm the only italian person who hasn't seen it yet :shifty:), but trust me I'm sure it's far better than Miami ones.....even if it's a little bit disappointing for House to jump the shark ;)

Ceindreadh thnaks for the info on the origin (I completely forgot to mention it) of the term and I agree with PerfectAnomaly that Fonz was on water skis ;)
