Me and my memory - what meaning had Mac's "DB" detective pin

Well, since I am a member of a lots of forums, I can't visit everyone. So please bear me with this question - I knew I read it here or even posted it myself, I don't know.

What meaning had Mac's lapel "DB" pin? I knew this once...

I recently watched "the brave one" where Jodie Foster played a vigilante and detective Mercerer (as well as 4 others in a press conference) wore that lapel pin, same as Mac...

I think I can remember discussing it in the Mac thread a while ago! I can't be sure (because i'm not) but I think it's something given to him from the military :)
 
I thought it just said 'D' and it stood for 'Detective'. But none of the others have one, so I'm not 100% sure!

I'm pretty sure it means 'Detective Bureau' and it's given out by the Chief of Detectives(Sinclair).
