Chapter 1
Sara Sidle had never felt so bored in her entire life. She was stuck in her apartment, the reason being she had maxed out on overtime again. But she had a reason for that, her good friend Nick Stokes had been abducted a few weeks ago and he only just got out of hospital:
God I can't stand this any more! She thought, standing to pace the floor. She was not used to doing nothing. She only maxed out this month to keep her mind of the recent events.
A few months before, she and her supervisor, Gil Grissom, agreed for her to take days off from work when she needed to. After her raving blowout with Conrad Ecklie and Catherine Willows, she was a slight emotional wreak. She opened up to Grissom about her dark family secret, she only ever opened up to him.
I wonder what he is doing? Maybe I could call him...talk with him. They also agreed that whenever Sara was feeling stressed or alone, he would lend her a sympathic ear and shoulder to cry on. Their friendship had been repaired to soom degree, although there was still a little more to be put in to make it like before...like when they were in San Francisco.
Sara decided that she was going to give Grissom a call, as it was his night off too:
The phone rung, "Hello?" Said a voice on the other end of the line.
"Hey Grissom, it's Sara."
"Hi. Is something wrong?"
"Not really. I'm just bored, can we talk for a while?"
"Of course we can. To be honest, I'm not having very much fun either." Sara could see his Grissom-esque smile, even if he was on the other end of the phone-line.
"Can uhhh...you come over for a bit. I think I need to speak to you face to face."
"Yes, I be over in a few minutes."
"Ok, see you then."
Sara then hung up and smiled to herself. She revelled in the fact that their friendship was back on track.
True to his word, Grissom arrived at Sara's apartment a few minutes later. He had also brought dinner, even if it was chinese take-out, he knew it would make Sara smile. He did wonder why Sara sounded depressed on the phone, but after what happened he didn't blame her:
"How are you feeling? You sounded upset." He placed the food on Sara's kitchen counter and walked up to her.
Sara just looked at her supervisor. Telling him with her eyes how she felt inside.
"I know. It's been rough these last few weeks. Nicky is fine now, still on some painkillers, but fine nonetheless."
"I know that. Nicky is a fighter." Grissom saw she was fighting back tears.
"Hey?" A single tear fell, and Grissom caught it, halting its travels. "Sara it's alright."
"I look stupid." She bluntly stated, frustrated with herself.
"No you don't, you're upset." Grissom pulled her closer to him. Sara hesitated for a moment, but then let him wrap his arms around her, welcoming the comfort.
Sara mumbled something incoherant into Grissom's shirt. Grissom wondered if he heard what he thought he heard.
