“Okay Jim, what we got?” Ray asked as he walked towards Brass. “Four nineteen, twenty seven year old Harriett Dujowski,” Brass answered, “she's a trainee school teacher.” “Who found her?” Catherine asked. “Guy over there, going for a run, stumbles on the body and calls us” Brass replied. “Okay, get Nick, Greg and Jess to take a look around,” Ray said, “perhaps they might find something.” Catherine acknowledged Ray and went to inform the others.
“Woah,” Jess said with a tone of shock, “the alert said a four nineteen right?” “Yeah, why?” Nick said. “Well, make that a double four nineteen,” Jess sighed, “we got a John Doe.” Nick and Jess glanced at each other. They were soon joined by Greg. “Oh, you found one too?” he asked, as he slid down the mini incline of the banking. “You mean you got one as well?” Nick asked. “Erm, yeah,” Greg replied, “no ID though, what about yours?” Jess shook her head in a no motion. “Not a thing,” Nick sighed, “it's just a pile of blub.” “Okay sociologist, do you have any theories?” Greg teased.
Officers cordoned off where the bodies were found and remained within the vicinity. “Okay, so we have three bodies,” Catherine announced, “one guy, one girl and one unknown as of yet.” “One has been positively identified as a Miss Harriett Dujowski,” Ray added, “Brass is on his way to inform the next of kin.” “Do you think they're connected or is it just sheer coincidence that there happens to be two bodies in reasonable conditions and one blob of blub, which stinks like rotting flesh, all within a five mile radius of each other?” Jess asked. This really got them thinking. “Okay, here's what we're gonna do,” Catherine said, attracting the attention of her co-workers, “Ray and myself are going to learn more about the bodies, Nick's going back to LVPD to help Brass and Greg, you're processing the scene and Jess, you're going to help him.” “Enlighten Greg with your theories” Ray said, with a little smirk.
“Okay, so let's say this was the scenario” Jess said, “our blob of blub, possibly the first victim, if the cases are connected, was walking along here then unexpectedly gets jumped on, attacked and left to die.” “Erm, what makes you think that the blub is the first vic?” Greg asked, sounding as though he was assessing Jess, “Why didn't you say the female vic was our first victim?” Jess glanced at Greg, “Well, obvious isn't it? The anatomy of our female vic is still entact, whereas the blub, is possibly decomposed flesh judging by the stench it was giving off.” Greg pulled a little jib and shrugged his shoulders. “You were testing me,” Jess smirked, “I know Greg.” “Hey don't wander off Jess!” Greg shouted as he noticed Jess walking away from him. “Oh come on! Exploring won't hurt will it?” Jess shouted back. “It's not wise though” Greg said. Jess walked back towards him. “I know,” she sighed, as she grabbed his hand, “that's why you're coming with me.” Greg felt uneasy, but he never showed it. Ever.
“So, Doc,” Ray said, “this blub is?” Robbins glanced at Ray over the top of his glasses. “It's human flesh, Ray,” he said, “who found it?” “Our new kid, Jess” Ray said. “You have a new CSI?” Robbins queried. “She's not a CSI,” Ray smiled, “she's a junior criminal sociologist.” “Hmm, that's a new one,” Robbins said, “and how's everyone getting on with her?” “Fine,” Ray added, “everyone seems to like her, Greg in particular.” “Oh, like that huh?” Robbins smiled. Ray nodded. “Ah well, he's a young man” Robbins sighed. “So, can we get any idea as to male or female DNA?” Ray asked, changing the subject. “I've got samples,” Robbins said, “they're on the side, Wendy can tell you more than me.”
“Oh come on! You're telling me you don't do adventures?” Jess laughed. “Erm, not when I'm supposed to be doing my job” Greg stammered. “You never know what you might find” Jess shouted. Greg stopped in his tracks as he thought he heard something. He turned around to look behind him. He saw nothing. He turned back around to face Jess, but she wasn't there. She'd disappeared.
“Oh my God, Jess!” he yelled, “Where are you?!” Greg became panic stricken. He reached for his phone. “Goddammit! No reception!” he shouted at himself. “Greg!” He could hear Jess, but couldn't see her. “Jess, where are you?” he yelled. “Go to the embankment on your left!” she responded. “What?!” he replied, sounding confused. “Look down the embankment you fool!” Jess yelled. Greg ran to the embankment and peered over. “Hey, you okay?” he asked. “Erm, not really,” Jess replied, “you better bag me and tag me.” Greg looked confused. “I'm evidence” she sighed.
Back at the lab, Jess was walking down the corridors. People were stopping and staring. Wendy and Henry were in amongst the spectators. “Jessica!” Jess froze on the spot and turned around slowly. “What can I do for you Mr Ecklie?” Jess asked, smiling like the Cheshire Cat. “Jessica, what the hell are you covered in plastic sheeting with evidence stickers for? Wasting resources is not acceptable.” “Look, you want answers, go ask Sanders” Jess replied. “Don't be smart with me Crawford!” Ecklie spat. “If you must know, I'm evidence, so if you don't mind, I'd like to go get processed and have a shower cos I'm starting to stink of dead people” she said. She turned on her heels and went towards Trace.
“Hodges, can you do me a favour?” Jess asked. Hodges turned around. “My God Jess!” he shouted. “What?” she asked. “No offence, but you stink of decomp” Hodges said. “Yeah, I'm aware of that” she spat. They were interrupted by Henry. “What's that smell?” he asked. “I forgot to wash this morning,” Jess said sarcastically, “couldn't be arsed to take a shower, y'know?” “Really?” Henry asked, sounding surprised. “No, I fell down an embankment and ended up in a pile of decomposing flesh!” Jess shouted. “I'll cut the sections off your clothes and you can go have a shower” Hodges said. “Thank you” she smiled.
