CSI Files
Captain
Judith Scott, who played Dr. Jenna Williams in CSI: Crime Scene Investigation's first season, has landed a new role as a secret agent.
Scott will play Agent Louise Beckett on the science-fiction, action-adventure series, Jake 2.0. The series will air on UPN at 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday night from this fall, as the new lead-out show of the latest Star Trek instalment, Enterprise.
Created by Silvio Horta (The Chronicle), Jake 2.0 centres around Jake Foley, a slightly geeky National Security Agency technician who becomes a superhero-cum-secret agent after he is infected by nanites.
Judith Scott's character is described by UPN's press material as a "powerful senior agent". An advance review of the pilot at Ain't It Cool News praised all the cast members, but described Scott as a "stand-out".
Christopher Gorham (Odyssey 5) will star as Jake, with Marina Black (Six Feet Under) as his love interest, congressional staffer Sarah Heywood. Gorham previously guest starred as Corey in CSI's "Crash and Burn".
AICN's reviewer, 'Hacker', said Jake 2.0 has "plenty of potential" with "several potentially interesting future storylines". However, the Wednesday 9:00 p.m. timeslot is one of the most competitive in television, and Jake 2.0 will be up against heavy-hitters such as The West Wing and The Bachelor. "UPN is notoriously bad at launching new dramas," he said. The previous two occupants of UPN's Wednesday 9:00 p.m. slot, Special Unit 2 and The Twilight Zone, only had limited runs of 19 and 22 episodes, respectively.
