CSI Files
Captain
Josh Berman's new procedural drama has gone through its second name change.
Originally known as Deviant Behavior, the show's name was changed briefly to The Gate, and was recently renamed Killer Instinct. Berman's new creation was picked up this spring by Fox, and thought the show will no doubt keep him busy, he will remained linked to CSI, where he serves as co-executive producer.
Killer Instinct will also see a slight change in the cast. Actress Marguerite Moreau, who will portray Ava Lyford in the pilot, will be written out after the first episode. Kristin Lehman will replace her as newcomer Det. Marcy Hess.
Killer Instinct sees the work of a team of investigators in San Francisco that seek to incarcerate the city's most deviant criminals. The principal character is Detective Graham Hale (Johnny Messner), who, in the pilot, returns to work after taking a year off to recuperate from the death of his partner. Lehman's Marcy Hess will pair with Hale and the two will be the face of San Francisco's Deviant Crime Unit.
Meanwhile, the Futon Critic has provided a mixed review of the show's pilot. Columnist Brian Ford Sullivan applauded the writers' clever idea that, "those who are good at catching deviants may be deviants themselves," but wondered if the show will have the chance to survive or will feel the backlash of the over-saturation of procedural dramas currently on television. Fox recently experienced it with The Inside, which has been faltering in the ratings and might get cancelled by the network.
Killer Instinct will premiere September 23rd at 9 p.m. on Fox. Head over to Variety to read the original report. The review of the first episode can be found at the Futon Critic.
