When CSI: New York filmed on location in Times Square, the cast had an extra celebrity in their midst.
Tennis star <font color=yellow>John McEnroe</font> has a reputation on and off of the court. This came in handy during his recent guest-starring role on CSI:NY. In the episode, "Comes Around", McEnroe was the main suspect in a murder investigation. "I can tell you that I'm playing myself, and I can tell you that some of the police may think I'm a bad guy, which I know is hard to believe, that I may misbehave sometimes," McEnroe told <font color=yellow>Julie Chen</font>. "That's not much of a stretch, maybe."
CSI:NY marks McEnroe's first appearance on this type of television show. He is a fan of New York, but his wife is responsible for encouraging him to take the role. "My family, especially my wife, watches a lot of these crime dramas, so when I got the opportunity to say I could actually be in CSI: New York, she was like 'you've got to do this, if it's the last thing you do,'" McEnroe said.
The stars of the show were willing to give McEnroe a hand with his part in the episode. "Usually people are really excited and want to just kind of experience the whole thing, so we go through it and just kinda—anything you want, I can show you the ropes," <font color=yellow>Melina Kanakaredes</font> (Stella Bonasera) explained. <font color=yellow>Gary Sinise</font> (Mac Taylor) offered McEnroe some advice about acting. "Be yourself," he said. "Just go with your gut, go with your instincts, just like you do on the court." McEnroe analyzed his own performance. "I don't think they're gonna be calling me to replace <font color=yellow>Brad Pitt</font> or <font color=yellow>George Clooney</font>," he said. "They don't have a whole lot to worry about."
