Horatio's Secret

I am a huge CSI buff, but I've been caught up in my DVDs of the original and can't remember Horatio's dirty secret. I know he killed someone, and I know his mother is involved but I would like to remember what happened. Someone please send me a message and remind me of this huge plot twist that I am hung up on. Its killing me.
