Helgenberger: We Had A Lot Of Fun

CSI Files

Captain
CSI: Crime Scene Investigation's Marg Helgenberger (Catherine Willows) uses her time on the hiatus to put her face on the big screen.

When Helgenberger was a child, a career as an actress was unrealistic. "I had absolutely no role models," she told the Journal Gazette. Despite the difficulties, Helgenberger has achieved success in show business. While on hiatus from CSI, Helgenberger takes small roles to keep herself in feature films. In Mr. Brooks, she portrays the devoted but oblivious wife of a serial killer, played by Kevin Costner.

Helgenberger said that she enjoyed working with Costner. She described him as having "a great boyish charm that was highly appealing. And you know, we have to play this loving couple — and we had a lot of fun." Helgenberger told The Early Show that working with Costner was a great experience. "He was incredibly interested in what I had to say, inclusive of my thoughts and ideas about the film and the story," she said.

Helgenberger compared Mr. Brooks to the BTK killer, Dennis Rader. Rader worked in the government and was active with his church and the local Boy Scouts, but he ultimately confessed to committing ten murders. "You can't use logic with those kind of minds because they're beyond logic," she said. Her character in the movie, Emma Brooks, does not seem to realize that her husband is living with a murderous secret. However, Helgenberger thought that there was more to the story. "I think that somewhere she does know that he's got a dark side, but she chooses just not to go there because I just don't believe that she was completely oblivious."

Good for Marg. It's great that even though it's summer hiatus for CSI, she still manages to get active with all these interviews in print and on TV. :)

I love Marg. It's great that she's getting all this converage. I think it really bodes well for her post-CSI career.
