Helgenberger On The Acting Business

CSI Files

Captain
Marg Helgenberger (Catherine Willows) recently offered some advice to aspiring actors — you have to get out there and show Hollywood what you're made of.

The Emmy-winning actress admitted she's usually not the aggressive type, but urged up-and-comers not to be complacent. "I'm more willing to sit back and let things come to me, but this business is too competitive, and one has got to be more aggressive and go for things," Helgenberger told the Associated Press. "Those are the ones that succeed."

Despite her laid-back nature, Helgenberger has flourished in show business, having landed regular roles in two successful drama series — China Beach and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation — as well as several films, including Erin Brockovich, Species and Bad Boys. With numerous Golden Globe and Emmy nominations, including one win, as well as three Viewers for Quality Television Awards, there's no question Helgenberger's talent has won her the admiration of her peers and audiences alike. But the actress said that doesn't always equal success.

"Talent is such a small fraction of what makes a successful movie star, because it's so much about other things: drive and passion and whatever you want to be."
