Helgenberger Is A Goddess

CSI Files

Captain
One woman goes from detective to deity.
CSI: Crime Scene Investigation's Marg Helgenberger (Catherine Willows) is starring alongside fellow CBS actor David McCallum (NCIS's Dr Donald "Ducky" Mallard) in an upcoming movie. The film is an animated feature about the DC comic heroine Wonder Woman. In Wonder Woman, Helgenberger provides the voice for the goddess Hera, and McCallum plays Zeus.
Helgenberger was drawn to the role because of the cast. "Not that I was going to be playing opposite most of them, but just to be in their company," she explained in a press release posted on Toon Zone. "And being married to Zeus was kind of fun – he is the god of all gods in Greek mythology. Voicing acting is usually fun, though – I've even asked my agents about narrating books on tape. I'm very curious about that world. I'm a fan of documentaries, as well, and the voice kind of makes it right. Mostly for me, though, it's all about the acting –you don't have to get hair and makeup and the whole bit. You just can have fun with the acting."
The actress said the television landscape provides opportunities for actresses to play a variety of strong female roles. "But in terms of the action heroines, there's not enough of them," she added. She cited Sigourney Weaver's character in Aliens, the French film La Femme Nakita and Linda Hamilton's role in Terminator as several examples of "action heroines". Helgenberger went on to say, "I think we need more of those characters. Maybe now that we're into the 21st Century, there will be a lot more of them."
The original interview is from Toon Zone. Wonder Woman will be released March 3, 2009.
