Helgenberger: I Could Give Her Some Tips

CSI Files

Captain
Kevin Costner embraces both sides of his character's personality, and Marg Helgenberger mentions her character from CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.

Helgenberger spoke to Matt Gilmore from Hollywood Press TV about Detective Tracy Atwood, the character played by Demi Moore. "I clearly could give her some tips," Helgenberger said, thinking of her role as Catherine Willows on CSI. "I've been doing this a long time, you know, and I know quite a bit about the collection and analysis of evidence."

Costner explained the way that he approached the role of Mr. Brooks, a character who is both a family man and a serial killer. "I tried to embrace both things," he said. "I didn't want to try to wink and say 'hey, I'm really a good guy.'" He also admitted that he "normally wouldn't want to do this movie," but that he liked the unusual way that the movie brought up all of the aspects of the character's personality but "never backed away from the fact that he was a serial killer."

Costner talked about how the movie creates "empathy" with the audience so that they actually find themselves supporting a serial killer by the end. However, despite being fictional, Costner pointed out that the character is not totally unrealistic. "[W]e know there's people out there that exist and we know that they could be next door."

A video of the interview can be found on Hollywood Press TV.
