grave danger part 2

sorry if this is in the wrong section, if it is feel free to move it. but i'm watching grave danger part 2 now, and its at the part where warrick and catherine think they've found nick but its only a dog in the box. but on nick's end its showing that their shoveling and stuff is disturbing the area around him, and causing the glass to crack. how is that possible if they're nowhere near him? they have to go back to the lab and sara finds out where he is. i just dont see the connection.
