Geeks Rule

CSI Files

Captain
CSI: New York's resident lab tech, <font color=yellow>AJ Buckley</font> (Adam Ross), admits to being a geek in real life.

"I'm a dork for sure," Buckley told Yahoo! Tech. "I'm able to laugh at myself, at my quirks, and stuff." And he thinks that's a good thing. "Geeks, dorks, I think we got a corner on the marketplace, and we rule," he said. Buckley's character, Adam, had an important role to play in the upcoming New York episode "Down the Rabbit Hole". He was the one to introduce Mac Taylor (<font color=yellow>Gary Sinise</font>) to the online world of Second Life.

In real life, Buckley does not participate in Second Life, but he does have some high-tech toys. "I love my Blackberry Curve," he said. "I like it now that it can take pictures." He also downloads music from the internet. "I love the Apple store, and getting music that way," he said. "I think that's the most genius idea ever." And he needs gadgets to play the music that he buys. "I have two iPods," he said. "I have the Shuffle, and the black 40GB iPod." One high-tech device that Buckley does not own is the new iPhone. "I was going to get the iPhone, but thought I'd wait for a little bit and just let them work out the hiccups they've had," he explained.

Buckley has gadgets for work as well as pleasure. He owns two HVX200 high-definition video cameras for his company, Fourfront Productions. "We create commercials and shorts," he said. "One of my partners has been working on webisodes, podcasting, things like that." Buckley has advice for aspiring video producers. "Go for it," he said. "Don't be afraid. The greatest thing about young and up-and-coming producers and filmmakers, is you're the studio. You can do it all. You don't have to outsource. Learn the technology, understand the technology, and do everything."

Aww, he really is a dork. *strokes him*

As I live with a geek myself I do have an understanding of the dorky gadgets that he speaks of, but I will never understand why some people think they need so many of them. Personally my only requirements for high tech phones and iPods and the like is that they are pretty. :)

But yes, geeks do in fact rule! :D

I know how it feels to be around all the technology too. Lots of my friends think they have to have the latest gadgets.

I like my IPod and enjoy, new cell phone, the Wii, and DS. That's about all I need to feel geeky. :D
