Chapter one: Charity Run

Heavy breathing, heart rate escalated, arms pumping, long golden blonde hair down her back; Calleigh Duquesne was running. She wasn’t running from anything, in fact, she was quite happy with her life. She had a husband, two kids, and nice house. Her job was the best she could imagine, she’d always wanted to work around guns. She didn’t lack in the looks and personality department either. She had long, angelic blonde hair, emerald green eyes, high cheekbones, and a petite figure. Calleigh’s life was close to perfect.

With 3 Doors Down’s “Kryptonite” pulsating through the headphone she was wearing, Calleigh took long strides. There were two people slightly behind her, and 4 or 5 in front of her. It was the last 200 yards. She was on the heels of 3 of those 5 people in front of her. She knew what was waiting for her at the finish line, that was her goal. She had been running a hard 5 miles, but she wanted to finish it strong. When she hit the last 200 yards, she broke into a full sprint. There were beads of sweat dripping down her face, and her legs felt like they were going to fall off, but she pushed herself anyway. She passed those 3 people, and the 4th person, and finished the five mile charity run in second place.

“Mommy!” she heard, about 30 feet in front of her. Calleigh’s oldest daughter, Casey came running to her, arms open. Calleigh was drenched in sweat, but she knew her daughter wouldn’t care much. Casey was 4 years old, and she was a very happy child.

Like her mother, she had green eyes and a blazing personality, she always had fun, no matter what she was doing. Also, like Calleigh, she was very stubborn, and Cal knew that she probably always would be. Whether it was cleaning her room or playing with dolls, she made the most out of it. Like her father, she had brown hair and thin lips. She was smart, like both of her parents, and she picked up everything easily. Calleigh guessed that was what you got when you put two CSI’s together.

Calleigh took her daugther in her arms, encircling her in a hug. “You did good mommy,” Casey said.

Cal smiled at her and nodded. “Yeah, I did sweetie,” she said lightly as she looked up to see her husband move forward. Yes, Calleigh’s life was very close to perfect. She didn’t want to change it in the least.

Chapter two: Cinderella

Calleigh had been the first woman to finish, and the second person overall. When she’d been given her little medal, she was asked for a picture. She got her family together and took her little baby Brianna in her arms, then smiled for the picture. She had stood next to her husband, who was holding Casey in his arms. That would be another picture to hang in her ballistics lab. No doubt she would see her name somewhere in the newspaper tomorrow. The Race for the Cure was the biggest race to take place in Miami, and Calleigh had been training for a while.

“Honey, are you ready?” Tim yelled from the car door, having already buckled Brianna and Casey into their respective car seats. Calleigh nodded and tore herself away from the group of people she’d been talking to, then jogged over the car.

“You just never stop do you?” Tim asked as he started the car.

“What can I say? I’m a very energetic person, you know, besides, I just ran a five mile race, I’m feeling pretty good right now.”

“Well that’s good, how long do you think that will last?” Tim asked, glancing over at her with a smirk as she headed home.

Calleigh turned her head and looked right back at him. “As long as you want it to,” she said as she turned to see Brianna sleeping, and Casey playing with one of her little dolls. They would be out like a light in a few hours, leaving Calleigh and Tim to do whatever they wanted.
“Did you talk to Horatio yet to see if we could get next week off?” she asked Tim as they made a right hand turn.

Tim nodded, keeping his eyes on the road. “Yeah, he said ‘don’t have too much fun’.”

Calleigh smirked. “So our trip is still on? Two weeks in Paris like you promised?” she asked him, knowing well that he had about five other places he’d rather go. Tim looked to her as he pulled up into the parking lot and stroked the back of her head with his right hand as he parked.

“Yes Calleigh, I promised you two weeks in France, and that’s what you are going to get, happy third anniversary honey,” he said lightly, with a smile, then leaned over and kissed her. Calleigh’s life couldn’t get any better right now. She was blessed with two little girls, a husband that loved her, and a wonderful job.

Tim got out of the car and went to the back, unbuckling a very playful Casey from her car seat. On the opposite side of the car, Calleigh lifted Brianna out of her car seat as well.

Little Brianna was only 3 months old, but she was the cutest little thing in the world. It was too early to tell what personality she would have, but she had Calleigh’s blond hair and her green eyes as well. She had Tim’s lips and chin, and she was very strong. She especially loved to pull on Calleigh’s earrings, which was why sometimes Cal wished Brianna wasn’t as strong as she was. Needless to say, Calleigh didn’t wear earrings anymore.

The married couple walked into their house, which was a very nice beach house that each of them had always wanted. When they got married, they’d finally had enough money to get it, with a little bit left over just incase of emergency. It overlooked the ocean, and had glass windows, which were half stained with handprints and saliva from the baby crawling over to it and getting curious. It had also had it’s fair share of artistic coloring from Casey that Calleigh had to wash off countless amounts of times.

The house was basically kid-proof. Nothing big and breakable was in sight, and there were toys spewed all over the floors of various rooms. Brianna and Casey were in two separate rooms, luckily when they’d bought the house, they’d expected to have two kids instead of just one. The house was beautiful, and Calleigh had spent a very long amount of time decorating it, it was perfect for her family and herself.

A little while later, Calleigh was showered off and had her flannel pajamas on like she usually had. Tim had settled Brianna into her crib, and had gotten Casey to get changed and brush her teeth. It was a few minutes after Calleigh had emerged from the room that the three of them settled down to watch a movie, which Tim and Cal knew Casey would eventually fall asleep to.

They let Casey choose, as always, but this time, Casey chose Cinderella. “It reminds me of you and daddy,” Casey said to her mom. Calleigh laughed a little and sat down next to Tim, who was settled on the couch already. Instinctively, Casey crawled into her father’s lap and laid down against him. Tim wrapped one arm around his daughter, while the other was around his wife.

Calleigh rested her head on his shoulder, and had the other arm around Casey as well. She watched the movie for about an hour, but after that, Casey had finally fallen asleep. Tim motioned to her that he was going to go put her in her bed, and Calleigh agreed. By the time Tim had tucked Casey in, Calleigh was at the doorframe. Tim looked up at her and smiled, then walked to the door and shut off the lights. Calleigh stayed where she was, just watching her daughter sleep. Tim came around her and wrapped his arms around her waist from behind. “She’s a little angel,” Tim said lightly

“She’s our little angel,” Cal replied.

A few minutes later, Cal straightened up the house for what seemed like the millionth time that day, and then settled on the couch again. She found that Tim was still watching the movie. “Didn’t know you liked Disney movies,” Cal said with a laugh as she sat down next to him. Tim wrapped his arms around her and pulled her into his lap instinctively.

“Well, like Casey said, it reminds me of us, you’re my Cinderella.”

“And you’re my Prince Charming,” Cal shot back, smiling.

That night, Calleigh and Tim had fallen asleep to the movie, just as Casey had. They’d both had a long day, as always, and were tiered out. Calleigh had work tomorrow, it was Tim’s turn to stay home. They’d asked Horatio if they could switch off days so they could take care of their kids, and Horatio of course told them they could, no questions asked. Horatio was, of course, the kids’ godfather.

Thanks Guys!

Chapter 3: Just Five Minutes

It was a rainy day in Miami, like it often was. The weird thing about Florida is that rain comes at random intervals. It could rain for a short five minutes, and never rain again the whole day. Unfortunately for a working Calleigh, that five minutes was the first sign she was going to have a bad day. She’d fixed up breakfast for her family, got ready for work, and had her coffee all on time. She’d given Tim a goodbye kiss and headed off to work. She’d insisted on walking since it was a seemingly a nice day.

Calleigh was about halfway through her fifteen minute walk when she noticed a single dark cloud. Before she even had time to pick up her pace, it started pouring down on her. She threw her blazer up over her head and made a run for it. She’d gotten to the lab in about five minutes, running amazingly fast for being in heels. As soon as she walked in the door to the lab, the rain stopped, the sun came out, and a very angry Calleigh was left at the door.

A sigh escaped the lips of a woman that sensed a bad day ahead of her. Cal walked into her ballistics lab, sighing contentedly a little bit, glad she was at least back in her own environment. She was content until a certain red haired CSI supervisor walked in. Calleigh had just picked up her case for today. A GSW to the skull of a man who’d been set on fire in a car outside of a bar Calleigh recognized as her father’s bar of choice.

“Well it looks like someone got caught in the rain,” Horatio said, not bothering to knock, Calleigh already knew he was there anyway. Calleigh’s bright personality shone through anyway, even if she was angry and a little upset.

“I guess we all have our days,” she said as she put the case file down and took her soaking wet blazer off. She was wearing a green tank top, which was Tim’s favorite. He always told her that she looked good in green, so at least 25% of her wardrobe was a vibrant green. She was often told it accented her eyes.

Horatio just laughed a bit. If there was one thing everyone adored about Calleigh, it was the way she could light up a room by just walking in. With just one smile, the lab became a better place to work. Her smile was what attracted her husband to her. He always loved her smile, and she seemed to be doing it often since they’d gotten married.

“I’m gonna get to work now if ya don’t mind so um…” she started, looking at the floor and smiling a bit. “Shoo,” she finished, lifting her eyes to meet his.

Calleigh’s boss laughed again and held out his hands defensively. “I’m gone then,” he said as he walked out of the room and down the hallway, headed back to his office. Another thing that Calleigh was admired for was her work ethic.

She did as she said, and got started with what she was given. The vic was in his early fifty’s, and had one GSW to the head, leaving Calleigh with one very beaten up bullet from bouncing around, but she could still match it. She was given a gun as well, found at the crime scene. Eric had already lifted the prints off of it, and reported that there were no hits in AIFIS.

This was Calleigh’s favorite part of the job. She went to the water tank, and popped off two rounds with the gun. On her way back to the microscope with the two bullets in hand, she wondered who the victim was. They hadn’t gotten results back from DNA yet, in fact, they should be back soon. Calleigh compared the two bullets, and confirmed a match. Right as she was about to turn around to tell Horatio, he came walking in the door.

“Calleigh, you’re being pulled off this case.” The look in his eyes was grave, and Calleigh immediately knew something was wrong.

Hmm, I have a slight idea of what's going on. But that doesn't matter, please continue soon, I love it. :)

I'm liking it but I don't love it. I think you've given too much away about the vic and now I don't have any reason to continue reading.

okay, that's fine, you don't have to read but please don't flame my fic, if you don't like it don't read it. Thanks.

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW...Jess, those first two chapters made me say 'AWWW' really loud. I'm loving the Talleighness of it. I have a feeling I know who the vic is but I don't really care that I know...and besides, it's not really about who the vic is anyway, its about the other characters...

awwww, Jess you are a really good writer. I'm looking forward to the next chapter :)

(by the way, I apoligise if that reply didn't really make sense...I can't really tell anymore :p )

okay if you don't update soon I will have to pitchfork you ...Jess? is it? I ain't very good with names lol Great start to the story tho!

lol thanks guys, I'll update now so that JC doesn't pitchfork me lol. Yes, it's Jess haha. Carly, your reply made sense lol. I didn't really write the story for the whole mystery aspect. The whole point is that Calleigh doesn't know who the victim is, and that's what I was aiming for. The same thing will go for the perp. You'll probably guess who it is through context, but the point is that Calleigh wants to find out.

Well, here you go!

Chapter 4: A Shoulder To Lean On

Heavy breathing, heart rate escalated, nervous hands playing with the ends of her hair; Calleigh was visibly worried. Horatio had told her to wait in her office, he said he would only be a few minutes, but it felt like hours. People that came by the office stopped and stared at her, she felt like the talk of the lab, and she didn’t even know why.

The next event was not one she was expecting. Both Horatio and her husband walked in the door, looking sadder than usual. She wondered what was going on, she had no idea what was happening, but she felt sick, something was obviously wrong, and she knew it. Horatio sat down on the ugly green couch that Calleigh was on, and Tim sat on the opposite side of her. Calleigh looked like she was about to murder someone if she wasn’t informed of what was wrong very soon.

Calleigh’s face showed pure fear, and nervousness. Whatever this was, it couldn’t be good, but her motherly instincts came before her own curiousness. “Tim where are the kids?”

“At my mom’s Calleigh, don’t worry,” he said lightly, in a tone Calleigh only heard when he just got finished informing the family that they’d lost a family member. That made Calleigh panicky, what the hell had happened?

Tim saw this and reached out of her hand, taking it lightly in his. Horatio cleared his throat, ready to talk. He found it quite ironic how he could do this with any other victim’s family, but not with Calleigh, he was like a father to her. He sighed lightly before looking up at her. “Calleigh, DNA results came back on our vic, he has 7 alleles in common with you,” Horatio said silently, not wanting to see her pained reaction.

It took a little while for it to register in Calleigh’s mind. She had a blank expression on her face before she looked to Horatio, in a daze. “My father?” she asked simply. Her eyes were wide, her lips were slightly parted, and she took long, almost lifeless breaths. Shock was starting to settle in. This wasn’t supposed to happen to her.

Horatio solemnly nodded and looked back up at her, the same way he’d looked when his own wife died. It was a look Calleigh had never seen, not even when he’d attended Marisol’s funeral. He always looked calm and collected, but he really felt for her. It was very sudden, and Calleigh didn’t seem to have a reaction just yet.

It was soon though that Calleigh turned to face Tim, asking her nonverbally if it was true. Tim nodded and looked down at her. The waterworks then started, which was expected, but not always welcomed. Calleigh collapsed into Tim’s arms, which immediately wrapped tightly around her. He stroked her hair, and looked over her shoulder to Horatio who gave him a look of sadness as well. They both cared very much for her, as did the rest of the lab.

As the usually vibrant Bullet Girl cried in her husbands arms, she thought about how this could have happened. She then remembered her last conversation with her father. He’d told her that Hagen’s evidence had been dismissed from court because one of the patrol officers on the scene forgot to call in and get the warrant signed. Her father was the lawyer who had suggested that the person in question had never seen a warrant to search the house. She wasn’t quite sure yet, but Hagen was a possible suspect, with a motive.

“Hagen,” Calleigh said before getting up and drying her tears. She walked to the lobby where she found a very pissed off looking Hagen walking towards the DA’s office. She briskly walked up to him, with Horatio running to catch up with her. She came up to her ex boyfriend and slapped him hard across the face, which got the attention of every lab tech, lawyer, CSI and DA in the building. “What the hell did you do?!” she screamed, accusing him of murder before she’d known it was definitely him. She went to hit him again, but Horatio grabbed her hands and pushed her away.

“Come on Calleigh, you don’t know the facts, come on.”

Tim was right on Horatio’s heels, feeling horrible about this whole situation. Eric was also wondering what was going on. Calleigh pushed herself into Horatio and started to cry again. Horatio soon looked to Tim, who stepped forward, and took Calleigh from his boss, and held her tightly in his arms. Calleigh’s life was perfect, until now, the first cut was always the deepest.

I love it! But I noticed one mistake, you're referring to Marisol's funeral, but earlier you said the fic took time after season 2..
