Both current CSI series will be filming location scenes for their first May sweeps episodes this week.
The CSI: Crime Scene Investigation cast and crew have decamped to the Southern California theme park, Pharaoh's Lost Kingdom, to shoot parts of "A Screw Turned Loose" (formerly called "Turn of the Screws"), the San Bernadino County Sun reported. The shoot started on Sunday and is expected to run until Wednesday, March 24.
"A Screw Turned Loose" revolves around a roller coaster that derails at the fictional Sphinx Amusement Park. Pharoah's Lost Kingdom was chosen as the site for the fictional park after other attractions said no, according to producer's assistant Carlos Marimon. "[Pharaoh's] was the only park in Southern California that would let a roller coaster be part of a crime scene," she said.
Approximately 200 extras were hired from Cattle Call Productions for the episode, which is currently scheduled to air on Thursday, May 6.
Over on the other side of the continent, the CSI: Miami crew will be heading to Florida tomorrow to film scenes for "Not Landing", which revolves around the crash-landing of a light aircraft. Delray Beach was chosen by location scouts since all the California beaches were too foggy.
"The portion they're shooting Wednesday is a teaser," said Nicole Daddio, a CSI: Miami producer's assistant. "All of the people are hanging out on the beach, playing in the water, and all of a sudden they look up and see the plane is coming down. The CSIs come on the scene after."
Series star David Caruso (Horatio Caine) will be in attendance, however, filming some scenes in a beachfront mansion. The episode is expected to kick off Miami's May sweeps schedule on Monday, May 3.
