CBS is promising big things for this year's CSI: Crime Scene Investigation finale, entitled "Inside The Box", with its publicity for May sweeps touting the death of a major character.

"The CSI team loses one of its own following a bank robbery and gunbattle in the streets of Las Vegas," the Orlando Sentinel reported. According to CSI Files sources, the character who will be killed off is not a CSI regular, but a recurring character, Detective Lockwood.

Played by Jeffrey D. Sams, Lockwood first appeared in season two's "Primum Non Nocere" and has since featured in another six episodes. He will reportedly meet his maker during the opening minutes of the season finale.

A Bulgarian gang will stage a daring raid on the First Monument Bank, where Lockwood is waiting in line for the teller like any other civilian. The gang orders everyone down on the floor while they move towards the safety deposit box, but a mother with a young son panics and tries to leave. When he sees one of the bank robbers raising his rifle at the woman, Lockwood moves to take out his gun, when all of a sudden another robber shoots him through the heart. He collapses, stone dead.

While the CSI team investigate who is behind the bank robbery — and Lockwood's murder — Grissom takes a major step regarding his hearing. Following the events of "Play With Fire", in which the lead CSI decides to see a doctor about his condition, Grissom will undergo day surgery in "Inside The Box".

The episode will also reportedly feature a return appearance by Sam Braun, who first appeared in the season two premiere, "Burked".

Please note that the above plot details have not been confirmed by CBS, Alliance Atlantis or Bruckheimer films, and until such time you should treat this information as you would any other rumour. The above information comes from an early draft of the script and details may change before the episode goes to air.

"Inside The Box" is currently scheduled to air May 15 on CBS.
