'CSI: New York' DVDs Coming Next Summer

CSI Files

Captain
Paramount is wasting no time getting CSI: New York to DVD: the company today announced the first season will be available in stores only a few months after it completes airing on CBS.

According to TVShowsOnDVD.com, Paramount is planning a late Summer release for the Big Apple CSI show. This brings the show to DVD substantially faster than its two predecessors, as CSI: Crime Scene Investigation had its first DVD release three years after its TV debut, while CSI: Miami fans had to wait two years for the first-season DVD set. There is no word on whether Paramount will follow these developments to their logical conclusion and launch the next CSI series on DVD first.

In addition to New York's first season, Paramount will also release the current seasons of the other two CSI shows in 2005, but fans will have to wait a bit longer for those. In September, CSI: Miami's third season will be available, followed a month later by the fifth season of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.

Before that, Paramount has one more forensic DVD release in the pipeline, as CSI: Miami - Season 2 will hit stores on the 4th of January, 2005. Paramount recently unveiled the cover image of this DVD set, seen here to the right. The second season of Horatio Caine's adventures can already be pre-ordered at Amazon.com.

Meanwhile, new reviews are still appearing for the fourth-season box set of the Las Vegas-based CSI show, which went on sale this week. At the Home Theater Forum, reviewer Scott Kimball gave the set the thumbs-up:

CSI may not be for everyone... but what show is? For me, it is television at it’s finest. This DVD set contains a number of commentaries, which is nice for those who enjoy listening to them. The meat of the special features, though, is the 50 minute look at the crafting of an episode from start to finish. Excellent video and audio quality are the reason to buy CSI on DVD. That’s been the case since season two, and it continues to hold true in season four. CSI fans - this is a no-brainer. This is an excellent season set.

In the full review, Kimball goes into more detail on the box set's special features, and also analyses the video and audio quality of the DVDs.

That's a really fast move to DVD. I eventually want all the shows on DVD, but I'd have to get a billion more jobs! :p
