'CSI: Miami' Board Game Released

CSI Files

Board game manufacturer SBG announced this week it has released a Miami-themed sequel to its original CSI: Crime Scene Investigation board game.

"This game is exciting and interactive with challenges that will appeal to fans of the hottest crime series on television," SBG president Mark Sutcliffe, who also helped design the game, was quoted in a press release. The game consists of three rounds of play during which players have to collect evidence, all in the interest of becoming the first investigator to submit a correct arrest warrant, proving means, motive and opportunity for one of three suspects.

The game comes with a CSI: Miami Handbook, information cards for each of the cases, and small player pieces representing each of the main characters. In addition, the game comes with a 12-sided die that determines whether a player can gather evidence, miss a turn, or answer a quiz question about the actual series. "Just like the show, players never know where the evidence will lead," Sutcliffe said.

The CSI: Miami board game is a follow-up to the original CSI game released early last year, and already available in six languages. It's sold 700,000 copies so far, and led to the release of an expansion pack containing more crimes to solve. Both the original game and the expansion pack are still available from Amazon.com.

Further information on the Miami game can be found on the official SBG site, which has already started the selling the game for a price of $24.95.

Hi,

I found out the two board games can be played with the show is on OR by itself. How do you play it with the show?

^^
What do you mean by "it can be played with the show?" As far as I know (I own the CSI board game), it is just played with the cases that come with it or the extra cases you can buy in a pack.

Yes. I know that. but, on the cover it said "can be played with the show". I took that to mean that you can play it while watching the show, and do as they do, so to speak. Since you've got the game, would it be possible to give me a run down of how the game is played. If you've got the time, that is. I would really appreciate it. It would help me determine if I'd like to buy it or not. Thank you! :)

^^
I'm not sure about that then. The Miami game might be different because it doesn't say that on the Vegas game.

Since you've got the game, would it be possible to give me a run down of how the game is played.
If the Miami game is played the same way as the Vegas one (not sure since I don't have it), then the way you play is that you start by picking a character to be and reading the case file.
Each player starts as a CSI Level 1 and there are squares for each department (such as ballistics, interrogation, trace, etc...) on the board. If you land on one of those spots, you read the card for your level. The cards give you information on evidence collected, stuff said by the suspects, etc... Once you've been to each department, you move up to the next CSI level, until you're a level 3 (which is the level you must be in to solve the crime).
All this time, you're filling out your arrest warrant/checklist with info about the suspects and you have to have at least 3 evidence cards coded (1 each for means, motive and opportunity) before you can goto Gris' office to make your guess. Anyways, that's the basic gist of the game.

The game's really fun, but it can get a bit complicated and confusing at times, but it's great trying to figure out 'whodunnit' :D

If you haven't done so already, you could check out the merchandise forum and see if anyone there has the Miami game.
I mentioned that I would like it as a gift for Christmas, so we'll see if Santa puts it under my tree.....maybe not though since I have the rule of 'thou who buys me board game must play thy board game with me' and my family rarely is wanting to do so. :D

Ok, thank you very much for the info! I think it sounds like a game I could get interested in. It sure sounds similar to the computer version, but the board game (played with other people) sounds way more involved, and therefore, more interesting. Thanks again, and Merry Christmas! :D

I got the orginal CSI board game with its "boost cases". I made a mistake in my previous posts, I found out that, the two games are NOT made as a "play-along" with the show. Sorry for causing any confusion. It's a great game!
