CSI: Crime Scene Investigation earned the highest overnight ratings on US television Thursday night, leading CBS to victory over NBC for the night overall.
CSI received a 16.4 rating/25 share for the episode "Precious Metal", well ahead of NBC's Will & Grace and Good Morning Miami which had ratings of 9.6/14 and 7.6/12 respectively. These ratings are down slightly from the overnights for the last new episode, "Crash and Burn", which earned a 17.4/26. They are also down somewhat from the overnight season average, 17.55/25.14.
Without the lackluster NCAA basketball tournament affecting its numbers, CBS scored the overall ratings victory for Thursday night. Yet NBC earned the highest numbers among the most coveted demographic, adults 18-49, the subset of viewers targeted most heavily by advertisers.
For the night, CBS averaged a 12.4 rating/19 share overall, with NBC in second at 10.8/17. But among adults 18-49, NBC managed an 8.1 rating while CBS averaged 7.2.
