'CSI' Helps CBS Set Ratings Record

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation joined forces with Survivor last week to fight off CBS's mortal enemy: NBC.

CBS's Thursday-night line-up scored higher ratings than NBC among adults 18-49 for the first time since demographic ratings were measured fifteen years ago, trade paper Variety reported.

CSI and Survivor scored a combined 7.5 rating / 19 share in the 18-49 demographic compared to NBC's 7.4/19. Although it was the narrowest of margins, NBC has always prided itself on being able to outstrip CBS among adults 18-49, the demographic which advertisers value the most. The peacock network's Thursday-night line-up, which includes Friends and ER has always been considered one of the jewels in its crown.

"Feeling The Heat" managed an overall rating of 17.0/25 last Thursday to claim the title of the week's number one television programme. It was also the most-watched CSI episode this season, with a total of 27.6 million viewers tuning in. "Feeling the Heat" also topped previous season four outings in the adults 18-49 demographic.

While the baseball World Series claimed four spots on last week's top ten, CSI: Miami was still able to keep in the game, taking out tenth place. "The Best Defense" scored an 11.8 rating / 19 share, which translated into a viewership of 17.5 million.
