the first computer game based on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation hit stores across North America yesterday.

Produced by UbiSoft Entertainment, the first-person computer game immerses players in the Las Vegas crime scene, according to Amazon.com. Players take the role of a rookie CSI who must solve crimes with the guidance of Gil Grissom and the other members of the graveyard shift.

The game features five unique cases to investigate, aided by forensic technology seen on the television series, including fingerprint dusters and UV lights. Noted crime writer and CSI author Max Allan Collins devised the scenarios and scripted the game. The writer of the graphic novel Road To Perdition, Collins is responsible for the CSI books Cold Burn, Sin City and Double Dealer.

Las Vegas senior crime scene analyst Daniel Holstein, the original inspiration for Gil Grissom, lent his expertise to the game to ensure all the forensic details were correct. Accuracy was also the buzz word when it came to replicating the look and feel of the television show - digital artists used photographs of the CSI sets to create the locations, and all eight CSI cast members provided their voice talents to the game.

"We are pleased to offer an authentic game that features all the voices and likenesses of the entire CSI cast," Tony Kee, vice president of marketing for Ubi Soft Entertainment, said in a press release at IGN. "CSI fans will appreciate the attention to detail we put into developing this game."

The CSI: Crime Scene Investigation computer game is rated M (Mature) and can be purchased from Amazon.com for $29.99.

Is this game just available from Amazon? None of the stores near my office had the game when I checked today. If anyone already bought the game, how is it?
