Who are you, Riley Adams?
CSI: Crime Scene Investigation will welcome Lauren Lee Smith (Riley Adams) in the third episode of the season, "Art Imitates Life". Riley is from St Louis, Missouri, where she was a police officer before becoming a CSI. She starts out as a second-level criminalist in the Las Vegas crime lab.
Riley is a bit of an enigma for the rest of the team. "When asked a question, it's not that unusual for her to have a different story every time," Smith explained to USA Today. "It takes a little while for them to figure out who this Riley character is." One thing they do know is that she is a "sarcastic" and "spirited" character who is willing to go against her supervisor, Gil Grissom (William Petersen). "She butts heads a little bit with Grissom. [But] It's done in a very respectful way," the actress revealed.
Smith said Riley has developed a nice relationship with fellow CSI Greg Sanders (Eric Szmanda). They "have this very brother-sister banter," Smith explained. "They're poking fun at each other all the time." Meanwhile, the actress's relationship with the cast and crew worked out better than she expected. Smith was nervous about joining the well-known show, but "everyone was so welcoming," she said.
The technical advisors for CSI have helped Smith get into the role of a forensic investigator. "They're there every step of the way, showing you what everything looks like and how to do it, even down to how to hold your camera and your flashlight. You want to look as professional as possible," she explained. But she confessed that she messes up sometimes: "They have come in and said, 'Un-unh. No, no, no.'"
The original article is from USA Today.
