----------Chapter 1--------------------
Sara sighed heavily as she shut the door from the garage behind her. She put her shoes in the closet and walked into the kitchen as she had every day for what seemed like forever, and was defiantly the best time of her life. Depositing her keys and purse on the counter she called out,
“Gil? Where are you?” Her eyebrows reached for each other in her confusion. Normally Grissom met her at the door unless he was cooking dinner which he obviously wasn’t. She walked down the hallway into the bedroom. “Gil?”
By the light of the orange sunset that peaked through the closed blinds on the windows she saw he whom she sought. She smiled at how young he looked when he was asleep. A sweet hint of a smile adorned his features which looked even more boyish than normal. She leaned against the doorframe studying him with an enthusiasm that she had once reserved for her work. Suddenly a loud BUZZZZ came from the kitchen, making her jump and her hand go to her right hip. He stirred and mumbled something about a roach before rolling over and sitting on the edge of the bed. He rubbed his face but then leapt up when the buzzer went off again.
“Oh Sara!” he said, surprised to see her in the doorway. “I’m sorry, how long have you been here? I need to go get the lasagna before it burns, I thought you wouldn’t be home till later.” He babbled all at once. Sara’s smile grew even larger than it had been before.
“I just got home; Greg’s doing the paperwork for me. He thinks I’m going shopping with Catherine. I’m still continually amazed with her.” she said following Grissom into the kitchen. Sitting down at the small table, Sara enjoyed the view as he took the lasagna out of the oven. “Smells good.”
“It’s my mother’s prize-winning recipe.” he said proudly. “How did your case go?”
“It turned out to be suicide. Her husband of 8 years left her.” Sara sighed heavily, all traces of her smile vanishing. She whispered, “8 years and he just picked up and left.”
The pain in Grissom’s face became twice that of Sara’s. “Honey, you know I would never, could never, do that to you don’t you?” He bent down to her level. “Look at me Sara. I love you. Never forget that.”
A tear fell from Sara’s eye and trickled down her cheek. “I love you too.” He pecked her on the cheek and studied her brown eyes. Satisfied she was alright for the time being he got up to return to his pasta but suddenly found blur of brunette hair lunging at him and kissing him fiercely. As the kiss deepened she brought her hand to cup his cheek. He winced and she quickly drew back.
“Sorry, I forgot. I didn’t hurt you did I?” she said worriedly. “I didn’t make it bleed?” The small cut she had given him the day before was little more than anything he had given himself while shaving but Sara had been almost terrified he would be mad it happened. Grissom smiled at her.
“It’s all right Sara. I…” but whatever he had been going to say was interrupted by a loud crash from the bedroom.

Be gentle, first non-ficlet. Sorry about grammar/spelling, I know they're probably there. More where this came from, just say the word (which is 'marshmallow' by the way). And before anyone asks, loose threads will be resolved later *pokes chatty talk involving Catherine*

Its a really good start and I think you should role with it. Maybe a bit better of wording at some times but other then that, its actually really good, you put a nice intense emotion in there that is hard to capture, also putting people onto a cliff hanger rate off that bat is a good way to draw attention to your fic. Cliff hangers almost always keep them hanging on and comeing back for more. (Just a little something I learned when I wrote my first fic!) Definitely roll with it, I would love to see more!

ack you are evil doing a cliffhanger right away lol. I hope you update quicky and don't keep us waiting long for more.

evil is precisely what I was going for  but here you are.
--------------Chapter 2--------------------
“Stay here” he said immediately.
“No!” she whispered in the same tone she would have used had he suggested they go swimming in the Arctic. She grabbed her Smith & Wesson M&P .40 from her purse and forced her cell phone into Grissom’s hand. Grissom watched helplessly as she flattened herself against the wall and stalked towards the doorway to the hall with the muzzle of her gun leading the way. A crash sounded, followed by a long string of curses. Sara took a deep breath and tried to channel the influence of every cop who could sound scary before rounding the corner. A split second later she barked. Grissom suddenly realized he was still holding the phone and hadn’t called 911 yet and hastily did so as Sara barked
“Freeze!”
It was taking all of his willpower to stay in the kitchen but he knew going in there unarmed would be a distraction for Sara and might get her hurt and also could endanger his own life. He took a deep breath and raised the phone to his ear.
The man standing before Sara, his hands raised like the field goal of a football field, was roughly 35, though his balding head aged him. After an agonizing moment Sara summoned her strength again. “I want you to kneel down and put your hands on top of your head. Nice and slow.”
Strangely, the man smiled and said calmly, “I see the last eight years haven’t mellowed you Miss Sidle. I suppose that is to be expected, women never learn, especially meddling ones like you.”
Sara struggled to keep her face in check. She didn’t want to give him anything he could use against her. “How do you know my name?” she asked, matching his cool tone while her eyes swept the bedroom Grissom had slept in moments before. The window was broken and glass glittered on the floor, some covered by the discarded blinds. A case almost identical to the ones the CSIs used to carry their tools in sat open on the floor. Sara spotted the muzzle of a gun poking out the top of it, as well as a pair of latex gloves. Returning her gaze to his face she studied his face, trying to recognize it. He knew her, presumably eight years ago, but from where? And why would he come to Grissom’s house if he was looking for her? Unless he was stalking her, but he had looked surprised when he first saw her. Follow the evidence. Evidence before theories. She heard Grissom’s favorite words of wisdom in her mind’s ear.
“You don’t even remember do you? Mind that I have aged considerably since we last met. But then, so have you. But enough pleasantries, where is the ever charming Dr. Grissom? I must say I was surprised to find you here. I never pegged you as one to spread her legs for her job.” The smile never left his face. Sara was trying desperately to think through the fog of adrenaline rushing through her veins. He knew Grissom. He had not been expecting her to be here. He knew both of them 8 years ago? How could that be? She was in San Francisco 8 years ago! It was then that it dawned on her.
Back in the kitchen Grissom was driving himself mad with worry. He had gotten a busy signal the first time he tried 911 and now it was ringing.
“911 state your emergency” the voice on the line chirped.
“Someone broke into my home. He’s in the house. I think my girlfriend has him at gunpoint but I don’t know.” Grissom almost dropped the phone when he had a revelation of his own. When Paul Milander had been on the loose he had bought a small revolver, just in case he should need it. He had put it away and not thought about it for years but he knew it was in the hidden compartment in what appeared to be The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Moving slowly across the room he almost forgot he was on the phone with the emergency operator.
“Sir, your address please?”
Grissom told her distractedly and pulled book from the shelf. Bingo: the shiny metal seemed to wink at him.

Go Sara lol...no you don't want to mess with her. I know there'll be more angst ahead but I'm anxious for more anyway.

my evil mind thinks that isnt enough of a cliffhanger at the end of chapter 2. well, and I just got to a REALLY evil cliffhanger part at the end of a certain chapter in your future and I want to celebrate. Oh and sorry about the fact the chapters keep getting shorter, it just has worked out that way because I've been writing it pretty much as one big blob and cutting it up later. So anyway, here you are.
--------------------------Chapter 3------------------------
After assuring the woman that he would be alright hanging up until help arrived, he crept down the hall the same way Sara had, all the way praying that she was as amazing as he knew she was and that she was handling it the way he knew she could.
She mentally scolded herself for not realizing it sooner. She had worked with him for seven years, six months of which she had been living with him, and she had never put two and two together! One of the cases she had worked on in San Francisco had been consulted on by an entomologist from out of state! Realizing who it was she was dealing with she changed her tactics, recalling her self education in criminal profiling.
“How could you have gotten out so quickly? You couldn’t have been on that good of behavior!” Sara did her best to sound sincerely shocked though she knew perfectly well how he got out. Rapists were always let out on parole so they could go and let all of their repressed rage from their time in prison go into raping and killing someone. Criminal progression at it’s finest. She swallowed the ball of anger rising in her. Remember what Grissom taught you.
The cruel man smiled. “Ah, but I am such a good boy Miss Sidle. You of all people must know that. I am a good boy who likes to give people what they want.” Sara fought to keep her cool and not let him see any sign or movement she didn’t want him to see and interpret.
Crossing her left arm against her chest, her right one still holding the gun, she replied in a bad imitation of a breathy Marilyn Monroe voice “Why are you here? What do you want with Dr. Grissom” Let the arrogant bastard think I’m the scared little girl who just wants a pay raise and to go home to her stuffed animals.
“In due time my dear. I am a man of my word, and that includes my word to myself. Today I have a plan that I have promised to carry out, and it will not work quite the way I envisioned it with you here, so I must bid thee ado. If you would be kind enough to do the honors yourself I would be grateful, but otherwise I will have to retrieve my own gun and do what must be done, though it is truly a shame I will have to ruin you. Ah, but never worry, your last moments will be filled with pleasure.”
Sara could no longer restrain herself.
“YOU LOW PIECE OF SH__T! You and I both know ‘pleasure’ isn’t what those women felt when you violated them in the worst way possible and then stabbed them to death once they were too weak to fight back. How can you even say that!” she yelled, her composure shattered completely.
In an instant he had grabbed his gun and was pointing it at her with the look in his eyes she knew to be that of a person with nothing in mind but violence.
“I would not advise even thinking about touching her” said a quiet growling voice from the doorway.

-----------------Chapter4------------------------------
Grissom studied Sara for a moment out of the corner of his eye much in the same way he had what seemed like ages ago in the kitchen. Now the man spoke again, this time to Grissom.
“Ah, Dr. Grissom has decided to join our little party. She’s a feisty one isn’t she? I admire your taste in bimbos Dr Grissom. I myself would try to find one less beastly.” the man said as a crooked smile adorned his face once again. Grissom stood next to Sara, the lines in his forehead becoming valleys at the word “beastly”.
“YOU JUST DON’T KNOW WHEN TO QUIT DO YOU? WHEN I GET DONE…”
“Sara” Grissom whispered so only she heard. Still panting like a racehorse Sara clenched her teeth and stepped back a little, as a signal for him to continue.
“Robert Jenkins, Convicted May of 1999 for six counts of sexual assault, and unfortunately acquitted on five counts of aggravated murder due to insufficient evidence. I suggest you put down the gun because the police are on their way and I already pity your defense attorney, particularly if they get here and see you waving a gun around.” Grissom spat the words at him.
The smile left his face and Robert seemed to squirm for a moment, probably more at the thought of increased attorney fees rather than the police, but did not move to put the gun down.
“Robert, I said put the gun down now.” Grissom said forcefully.
Robert smiled and never taking his eyes off of the two CSIs slowly placed the gun on the ground. No one in the room heard the barely audible screech of a siren.
“That’s good. Why are you here?” he said without letting the anger Sara could see around his eye show in his voice.
“Always the investigator Gilbert, I think I will let you figure it out for yourself. I know how you enjoy puzzles and despite what Sara seems to think that is really what I want; for other people to enjoy themselves.”
Sara took a deep breath. The switch to first names was not lost on her. She knew he was just trying to aggravate them, but he infuriated her and had Grissom not been there she knew the man would already have several bullet holes in him and to what gun ballistics would match the bullets.
“What is it you plan to do now?”
“Ah, why kill you both of course. As I told Sara, I am a man of my word, especially to myself” and with that he literally pulled a gun from the sleeve of his jacket without moving more than his hand. “I am sorry Gilbert but I will have to kill you first for the sake of dearest Sara’s pleasure. Goodbye.”
The sound of the gunshot echoed through the desert as the flashing red and blue lights raced across the sandy landscape.
