In Season One, I heard Grissom refer to his portable microscope (from his field bag) as a "Christopher Columbus," as in "Sara, grab my Christopher Columbus from my field bag." I can't for the life of me figure out why he used Columbus' name to refer to his portable microscope. I'm guessing this is crime scene lingo (not just made up TV stuff).
