CSI Files
Captain
Following the success of "Crime Wave," CBS will be airing another 90-minute CSI: Miami episode in February.
According to an exclusive scoop that appeared in the December 26 edition of TV Guide, sometime during the February sweeps CBS will air an extra long episode dealing with a massive fire in the Everglades, the marshland located in the south of Florida. In the episode, we'll also see one of Miami's most notorious criminals escape from prison, while there will be a kidnapping of what TV Guide describes as a "major scene stealer."
The Everglade episode will be CSI: Miami's second 90-minute episode this season, following "Crime Wave," which aired during the November sweeps. The producers seem to have predilection for featuring massive forces of nature in their extra-long episode, as in "Crime Wave" they had Miami being hit by a large tsunami.
Before "Crime Wave," the original CSI's 2003 episode "Lady Heather's Box" was the only other episode in the entire CSI franchise to be a full thirty minutes longer, while Miami also did the 75-minute episode "Body Count" during the first season . All these episodes were quite successful in the ratings, but according to one TV Guide insider, CBS isn't yet considering permanently expanding the show. "Thank heavens, no. These 90-minute episodes are a killer."
The original report can be found in the new edition of TV Guide. Thanks go out to Mel for this!
