Well, it looks like this episode is going to be every bit as bad as (if not worse than) I thought it was going to be. I haven't been able to play this clip yet (RealPlayer isn't working on my computer) but looking at the transcript and the script spoilers that were around, it is obvious that it will portray us in a very negative manner. I think I will watch this episode, than never watch CBS again. I'm truely sick of this nonsense.

Us?

Other than the poor concept, what are you sick of?

^ Furries are not best pleased about how they believe they will be respresented in this episode.

Furries.

And no, the writers will not surprise me. I've read bits of the script and several blurbs on it, and all definately portray furs negatively.

I know what you mean, I'm Wiccan and every time I see a movie like The Craft, it makes my teeth stand on edge.

I am sorry...but I must have just awakened from several years of sleep...

Can someone elaborate on "furries?"
I have never heard the term.

I never believe boycott threats like this.

I'm glad CSI is doing this episode. It's going to be creepy and hilarious in a way.

Furries and plushies have arrived at this site, all sounding awfully defensive. I guess they should be. They don't want to be depicted as weirdos, but what's the alternative? What can you say about people who get dressed up in animal suits and adopt new identities or personalities? And then there's the sexual element...

CBS has no obligation to be fair to the furry/plushie subculture. What will make this episode more fun is the fact that furries and plushies can only do so much to protest. They are generally afraid of media scrutiny. They'll complain on the Internet but you won't see them staging a public protest in their funny suits.

Can't wait till Thursday night!

Ahhh...thank you for the answer...I think.

I try real hard to be tolerant of other people, but you, Bad_Bishop, are really testing my limits.

I guess I'll be on my guard now.

Uh-oh!
Who's that stalking me?
Why, it's someone in a squirrel suit!
Help!

I happen to be Wiccan too, so I understand the negative "image" in which we are portrayed. For Christmas last year, my family gave me candles to use for my "witching" They thought it was a cute joke, but I didn't find it funny. Ah well, that's another story. (Happy Samhain, BTW)

I didn't think there were people like this until I saw that post, "....it will portray us in a negative way....."

Well, all I can say is,

"Each to their own."

"Whatever floats your boat"

"When in doubt, turn left"

"You can never have too much BBQ sauce."

Okay, got off the subject a bit there......." ;)

My point is, if that's what works for you, have fun and don't hurt anybody.

In terms of the argument of how entertainment portrays sub-cultures like this, there are a few things to keep in mind.

We are in fact, only human, and therefore capable of a whole SPECTRUM of behaviors. We also are in a capitalist society that loves to entertain by exploiting those behaviors, because "that's entertainment" and people tend to get bored of the everyday "normal" look of life. Come on, you think all these crime shows are "scooby doo" where all the players are normal and the bad guys are dragged away screaming " You Lousy Kids!"?

Besides, whatever sub-culture you write about, there's ALWAYS going to be someone that's rubbed the wrong way.

Each to their own.

Happy Samhain to you, too. :)

I agree, anything out of the ordinary will always be either feared or ridiculed. (I've ran into people trying to exorcise me ) Although after having watched the episode, I think the writers did a good job of it. Most of the ep was tongue in cheek, and it was clearly portrayed as such. I really didn't get a very offensive vibe.
