CSI: Miami makes a family connection.
"I would have to say the theme of this year -- season six -- is fathers and sons," <font color=yellow>David Caruso</font> (Horatio Caine) told Entertainment Tonight. That theme became obvious in the very first episode of the season, "Dangerous Son", when Horatio discovered that he had a child. The boy, Kyle Harmon (<font color=yellow>Evan Ellingson</font>), has appeared in three episodes so far this season, and Caruso described him as a young man "who is in jeopardy."
The theme of fathers and sons continued in the latest episode of Miami, "Permanent Vacation". <font color=yellow>Dean Cain</font> guest-starred as the father of a young man who was murdered in a hotel. "My oldest boy is killed, and I want to know what is going on," Cain said. Caruso described Cain's character as volatile and "spooky", and the team had to deal with the possibility that the dead boy's family would not leave it up to them to catch the killer.
"As a parent, you want to believe that the justice system is going to do its job and find the guy, but there is also eye-for-an-eye anger: 'You touched my child, you will pay,'" Cain said. "I don't know how you don't feel that, and my character feels that, and it manifests in his actions." Both Cain and Caruso are fathers in real life, and that helped them to connect to their paternal roles on Miami. "If I didn't have a child, I wouldn't feel as sure about the choices I make as this character," Cain explained. "You touch my child, you have a bull's eye on your head."
