Break Away

Head of the Graveyard Shift
Title: Break Away
Author: Wyoming
Pairing: Talleigh
Warnings: None

She stared out the window of a rainy Miami day. She wondered if she would ever be happy. With the events of today, she severely doubted it. She loved him. Alexx convinced her to tell him, write him a note and leave it on his locker. That’s what she did.

Dear Tim,

I know you might find this totally out of the blue, but I have to tell you before I drive myself insane with thinking that I’m a coward for not telling you. I’ve known you for years now. You amaze me. You’re sarcastic, but when it comes down to it, you always care. It’s okay if you don’t feel the same way, but I love you. I had to tell you before I left. And besides, I had to tell you I was leaving. I’m moving back to Louisiana, where I can live out my dream. I’m breaking away. I’m going to go live on a farm, and raise horses, like I’ve dreamed of. So I guess this is goodbye.

All my love,
Calleigh

She was leaving tomorrow morning, and she wasn’t sure if she could do it, but she already had the ticket, and she was going to leave. She was going to live out her dream, the one she forced herself to think didn’t involve Timothy Speedle.

She sighed and got up. It was no where near easy to tell him goodbye, but she had to do it. She couldn’t deal with the fact that he didn’t feel the same way, and she just wanted to forget. The blonde walked over to her picture book, and flipped through the pages, looking back on the days since she moved to Miami. She took pictures of everything, so that she would never forget. She thought she would never want to forget Miami, until she met Tim.

She swallowed hard as she looked at the picture she took of Tim when she first met him. His arms were crossed over his chest and he looked irritable. She laughed a little, it was so like him. Of course, when she first walked into the lab, her sunny smile and thick southern accent had meant that Tim would have to smile every once in a while, or else he would get a lecture, and he knew that he was going to hate this woman.

But he had been wrong. This southern belle had a beautiful heart. He fell for her. Hard. Everyone at the lab saw what the two had, everyone except the victims. This time, Calleigh was finished pretending. She didn’t want to fake that smile when he told her that he had a date that night, because it killed her inside. No matter how many boyfriends Calleigh tried to morph into Tim, she just couldn’t do it. No one could be like the real thing. He was genuine.

She bit her lip as she zipped up her last bag. Everything was boxed up and ready to be moved to Louisiana, but Calleigh still wasn’t sure this was the right thing. Nonetheless, she put the last bag near the door, so that it was ready to be taken tomorrow morning, and then she retired for the night, her last night in Miami. It killed her to think it was going to end this way, but she just couldn’t pretend anymore.

Calleigh sighed as she checked her bags. She couldn’t help but feel extremely sad, and extremely sick. She felt as if any minute, she would throw up, just because it hurt so bad to say goodbye to everything she knew. Tears rimmed her eyes, and fell without warning during her voyage to the gate. She sat waiting for about twenty minutes, and then boarded the plane.

As soon as Calleigh was seated, she couldn’t control her crying. Why was she even doing this? She obviously wasn’t happy, but she still wasn’t about to back down now. Everything was paid for, and she was really leaving. She was leaving Miami, leaving her job, and most importantly, she was leaving Tim. She was leaving everything she loved.

The plane ride there was tear-filled, and absolutely impossible to enjoy. Usually, when she went back to visit family, she would look out to the open fields, filled with horses and cows. Now, the sight of them made her sick. She covered her mouth, and closed her eyes. Why was she doing this?

She stood in line, waiting for the man who was supposed to drive her to the house that she was going to live in. She didn’t even know what condition it was in, but it was affordable, and it was ready for horses. She couldn’t wait to get him. Then, maybe she would feel better. She knew what the first one was going to be named already. She hadn’t even thought about it. Her first horse was going to be named Speed, no doubt. He would be delivered to her, the man had told her that he could deliver the horse with ease, since Calleigh didn’t want to ride him that far of a distance. He was still a calf so he couldn’t be ridden far distances She’d told the man that he was going to be named Speed, and that she was ready to take care of him.

Getting to the house seemed like the longest car ride of her life. It wasn’t that far, twenty minutes at the most, but it pained her to know that where she was going, there would be no man to make her smile by using a sarcastic remark. He wouldn’t be there to smirk at her, making her heart melt. So this was what life felt like without love.

She hadn’t told her family that she moved back. At least not yet, she still needed to collect herself before she did that. Her family would only make it worse, since Tim always made fun of her for her southern heritage.

Now, Calleigh sat on the back porch, awaiting the arrival of her horse. She had the book of her memories in Miami in her hands, and she got up, hearing the man with her horse enter the stable. She saw the horse being brought into the stable. She stood just on the outside of it, looking at her book while he did what he needed to do. Little did she know that he was leaning over the gate, looking at her book. He smiled and pointed to the guy.

“Not that is one good looking man,” he said, pointing to the picture of Tim.

Calleigh noticed that voice. That gruff voice that she’d run away from in Miami. She didn’t look at him yet, she couldn’t she was afraid that she would turn her head, and it wouldn’t be him.

“What did you name the horse?” he asked her.

“Speed,” Calleigh answered. She paused and turned around. “Speed?”

It was, it was Tim, standing behind her, wearing a short sleeved shirt, just like he used to do when he was a younger CSI. She swore that her heart dropped. She was so afraid that it wouldn’t be him. It was like she was frozen. She couldn’t move and she couldn’t speak. “Well, it’s nice to see you too Miss. Duquesne,” he told her, smirking like he always did.

“What are you doing here Tim?” she asked him.

“I got your note,” he said, turning more serious. “I can’t believe you left without coming to me for my answer first, I had to chase you all the way to Louisiana.”

Calleigh sighed. “Tim look, I told you that you don’t have to feel the same way, the whole reason I left…”

“Calleigh…”

“Was because I could leave you alone and you didn’t have to deal with my outrageous happy mood and you didn’t have to worry about me getting on your nerves and….”

“Calleigh…”

“I thought it would be better for both of us if I just left, and I’d always dreamed of coming here and living with horses, and being on a farm because I’d dreamed of it as a little kid and….”

“Calleigh!”

“What?” she finally stopped. She looked at him, breathing heavily from being so nervous.

Tim moved out of the gate, shutting it behind him, and petting the horse as he whinnied. Calleigh felt at peace when he did that, since she’d never thought that Tim would be the kind to pet a horse like he was. He calmed the horse down, then looked to Calleigh. He came up to her and took a deep breath. “Calleigh, I wouldn’t have come all the way to Louisiana to deliver you a horse. I love you too Cal, I have since the day you took that picture,” he said, pointing to the open book that had been forgotten on the ground.

Calleigh swallowed, and looked up at him. “So….are you here to stay?” she asked hopefully. Tim smiled and nodded.

“If you’ll have me Calleigh, I love you,” he repeated. Calleigh smiled and wrapped her arms around his neck, inching her lips closer to his.

“I love you too Tim, so much,” she said. He finally closed the gap and kissed her, softly at first, but she deepened it, and let it go a lot longer than Tim had planned.

Tim was the first to pull away. “So you named the horse after me huh? I don’t know whether to be insulted or honored,” Tim joked. Calleigh laughed and pressed her forehead to his.

“I did it Tim, I finally broke away, just like I told myself. I’m finally happy, and it’s all because of you.”

“Well, it’s just not that easy to say goodbye.”

  Jess!

That was the cutest Talleigh story I've ever read! Way better than the crap I write. Aw, that was so cute. He followed her to Louisiana, and delivered her horse, and and and.... *wipes tear* What a sweety.

Poor Calleigh, she didn't want to leave him there in Miami. Aw, it was so sad. The beginning I was thinking "Aw, poor Calleigh. It must be tearing her up inside" and then when I read that she recognized his voice, I was all "GASP!" and it was him!

That was quite a twist. And yet, so romantic. Makes me feel all...Warm and tingly inside. :) Excellent ficlet Jess.

Guys, please DO NOT go off topic in this thread. This thread is for the story, and discussion/review of it. Also, make sure your reviews are reviews please. I want to see what you like and what you don't like about the story. Just keep it constructive. The definition of review is: to discuss (a book, play, etc.) in a critical review; write a critical report upon. A review should not be less than two lines. I don't mean to be a you-know-what, but not getting actual reviews is viewed as an insult to me. I want constructive critisism! That way, I can make the story better according to what you tell me. lol

Anyway, here is the second chapter now that I'm done backseat modding (sorry sissi)

Shhhh I’m Hunting a Wabbit

Calleigh woke up to Eric kissing her forehead. She looked up at him and smiled a little. “Where are we?” she asked him.

“We’re just about over New Jersey right now,” Eric told her as he threaded her hair with his fingers. Calleigh nodded a little and rested her head back down on her husband’s shoulder. She sighed a little and thought about her true love.

It wasn’t that she didn’t love Eric. Because she did love him with everything she could give, but there were just parts of her that had been reserved for Speed. No one else could have them but him. She felt like that because of Speed, her marriage with Eric was lagging. She knew it wasn’t going to last much longer, and she felt horrible. Eric was putting his all into their relationship, but Calleigh could only give him so much because someone else flooded her mind.

She swore she could almost hear his voice if she really thought hard about it. If she really concentrated, and let nothing else crowed her mind, she could hear him calling for her. He was calling for her to tell her that he loved her, or at least she would have liked to think so. As she concentrated now, she could hear it again, but it was in her dreams this time, instead of meditation.

‘I love her’. Tim couldn’t stop thinking that since he left Miami. Now, trudging through the woods, pretending to have fun with his FBI “friends” was not helping him. Hunting was something Tim never enjoyed, he mostly just did it so that they didn’t bitch and complain when they got back.

He was aware of Calleigh and Eric’s case up in the state of Maine, but he didn’t know that Calleigh and Eric were actually going to come to Maine. The FBI was told to handle it since it was now Federal. As he raised his gun to aim at something moving, he saw three more people running after what Tim thought was an animal.

“MDPD!” he heard a female voice say through the woods. The supposed animal, which now more clearly looked like a suspect on the run, tripped, but got back up again. Tim discarded his rifle for his standard police issue 9mm, and shot at the suspect. But by the time he’d started shooting, whoever had been shouting and chasing after him had caught up to him. One of them fell to the ground in a groan of pain, and when he saw the suspect running away, his heart dropped.

The one cop went chasing after the man whom was still running through the woods, but the two other cops that were chasing after him were sitting on the ground.

“Eric it hurts so badly,” Calleigh said as she squeezed his hand. Getting shot in the leg wasn’t exactly what she’d planned when coming here.

“I know sweetheart, just keep squeezing my hand, alright? You’re going to be just fine,” Eric assured her. Calleigh just grimaced and gritted her teeth.

Tim swallowed, and then ran up to them, following the rest of his FBI friends. When he turned the corner, what he saw made him sick. Not only had he shot the wrong person, but he’d shot Calleigh. The Calleigh he thought he would never see again in his entire life. She wasn’t even supposed to know that she was alive. What was worse was that Eric was kissing her, and upon further inspection, he realized that both of them had a ring on.

Calleigh pulled away from Eric’s kiss and looked up at him.

“You’re going to be okay baby, I love you,” Eric said as he looked into her eyes. She was grabbing tightly onto his hand.

“I love you too,” Calleigh responded. Tim looked at his FBI friends, and then down to Eric who looked up, and his jaw dropped. “Speed?” he asked. Eric couldn’t believe his eyes.

Calleigh’s heart dropped when Eric said his name. She suddenly wished that none of this was even real.

 He shot Calleigh!

But aw, the poor guy is just so lovesick. And so is Calleigh. I can't wait until they profess their undying love for each other and finally be together. But poor Eric, how will he take it if that happens? Will he be crushed? Angry? Sad? Or will he accept that there are just some people who are meant to be together?

Poor Calleigh though. I can understand the way she feels --That she wishes none of it were real. I mean, she's been secretly loving the guy since he died. (and possibly before then) She doesn't want to hurt Eric because she obviously married him for a reason. She does love him, but she loves Tim too. It's just that the invisible barrier (ie: Death) kept her back in reality.

And Tim, the poor guy. He loves her, and he shot her. It's just not his year, is it? :p

Excellent chapter, can't wait for the rest!

I totally agree , even if it wasn't your intention guys, it's somehow disrespectuous toward Wyoming. Just imagine i go on your thread and instead of giving pertinent analysis of your story i start saying how much i love another writer etc...I'm sure you will feel as bad as she feels right now...So hugs her and peace will be back :D

Ok, I apologise for going totally off-topic, Wyoming :)

Now for my comments..... :D

Ok, I love it as usual (5-star rating)
I wish it was a little longer, but that's just me being a rabid Talleigh fan
It did end very nicely (that part)
And you do know how to put people in suspense :)
So, I'm sure I said this before, but great work :D
