Title: Break Away

She stared out the window of a rainy Miami day. She wondered if she would ever be happy. With the events of today, she severely doubted it. She loved him. Alexx convinced her to tell him, write him a note and leave it on his locker. That’s what she did.
Dear Tim,
I know you might find this totally out of the blue, but I have to tell you before I drive myself insane with thinking that I’m a coward for not telling you. I’ve known you for years now. You amaze me. You’re sarcastic, but when it comes down to it, you always care. It’s okay if you don’t feel the same way, but I love you. I had to tell you before I left. And besides, I had to tell you I was leaving. I’m moving back to Louisiana, where I can live out my dream. I’m breaking away. I’m going to go live on a farm, and raise horses, like I’ve dreamed of. So I guess this is goodbye.
All my love,
Calleigh
She was leaving tomorrow morning, and she wasn’t sure if she could do it, but she already had the ticket, and she was going to leave. She was going to live out her dream, the one she forced herself to think didn’t involve Timothy Speedle.
She sighed and got up. It was no where near easy to tell him goodbye, but she had to do it. She couldn’t deal with the fact that he didn’t feel the same way, and she just wanted to forget. The blonde walked over to her picture book, and flipped through the pages, looking back on the days since she moved to Miami. She took pictures of everything, so that she would never forget. She thought she would never want to forget Miami, until she met Tim.
She swallowed hard as she looked at the picture she took of Tim when she first met him. His arms were crossed over his chest and he looked irritable. She laughed a little, it was so like him. Of course, when she first walked into the lab, her sunny smile and thick southern accent had meant that Tim would have to smile every once in a while, or else he would get a lecture, and he knew that he was going to hate this woman.
But he had been wrong. This southern belle had a beautiful heart. He fell for her. Hard. Everyone at the lab saw what the two had, everyone except the victims. This time, Calleigh was finished pretending. She didn’t want to fake that smile when he told her that he had a date that night, because it killed her inside. No matter how many boyfriends Calleigh tried to morph into Tim, she just couldn’t do it. No one could be like the real thing. He was genuine.
She bit her lip as she zipped up her last bag. Everything was boxed up and ready to be moved to Louisiana, but Calleigh still wasn’t sure this was the right thing. Nonetheless, she put the last bag near the door, so that it was ready to be taken tomorrow morning, and then she retired for the night, her last night in Miami. It killed her to think it was going to end this way, but she just couldn’t pretend anymore.

Calleigh sighed as she checked her bags. She couldn’t help but feel extremely sad, and extremely sick. She felt as if any minute, she would throw up, just because it hurt so bad to say goodbye to everything she knew. Tears rimmed her eyes, and fell without warning during her voyage to the gate. She sat waiting for about twenty minutes, and then boarded the plane.
As soon as Calleigh was seated, she couldn’t control her crying. Why was she even doing this? She obviously wasn’t happy, but she still wasn’t about to back down now. Everything was paid for, and she was really leaving. She was leaving Miami, leaving her job, and most importantly, she was leaving Tim. She was leaving everything she loved.
The plane ride there was tear-filled, and absolutely impossible to enjoy. Usually, when she went back to visit family, she would look out to the open fields, filled with horses and cows. Now, the sight of them made her sick. She covered her mouth, and closed her eyes. Why was she doing this?
She stood in line, waiting for the man who was supposed to drive her to the house that she was going to live in. She didn’t even know what condition it was in, but it was affordable, and it was ready for horses. She couldn’t wait to get him. Then, maybe she would feel better. She knew what the first one was going to be named already. She hadn’t even thought about it. Her first horse was going to be named Speed, no doubt. He would be delivered to her, the man had told her that he could deliver the horse with ease, since Calleigh didn’t want to ride him that far of a distance. He was still a calf so he couldn’t be ridden far distances She’d told the man that he was going to be named Speed, and that she was ready to take care of him.
Getting to the house seemed like the longest car ride of her life. It wasn’t that far, twenty minutes at the most, but it pained her to know that where she was going, there would be no man to make her smile by using a sarcastic remark. He wouldn’t be there to smirk at her, making her heart melt. So this was what life felt like without love.
She hadn’t told her family that she moved back. At least not yet, she still needed to collect herself before she did that. Her family would only make it worse, since Tim always made fun of her for her southern heritage.
Now, Calleigh sat on the back porch, awaiting the arrival of her horse. She had the book of her memories in Miami in her hands, and she got up, hearing the man with her horse enter the stable. She saw the horse being brought into the stable. She stood just on the outside of it, looking at her book while he did what he needed to do. Little did she know that he was leaning over the gate, looking at her book. He smiled and pointed to the guy.
“Not that is one good looking man,” he said, pointing to the picture of Tim.
Calleigh noticed that voice. That gruff voice that she’d run away from in Miami. She didn’t look at him yet, she couldn’t she was afraid that she would turn her head, and it wouldn’t be him.
“What did you name the horse?” he asked her.
“Speed,” Calleigh answered. She paused and turned around. “Speed?”
It was, it was Tim, standing behind her, wearing a short sleeved shirt, just like he used to do when he was a younger CSI. She swore that her heart dropped. She was so afraid that it wouldn’t be him. It was like she was frozen. She couldn’t move and she couldn’t speak. “Well, it’s nice to see you too Miss. Duquesne,” he told her, smirking like he always did.
“What are you doing here Tim?” she asked him.
“I got your note,” he said, turning more serious. “I can’t believe you left without coming to me for my answer first, I had to chase you all the way to Louisiana.”
Calleigh sighed. “Tim look, I told you that you don’t have to feel the same way, the whole reason I left…”
“Calleigh…”
“Was because I could leave you alone and you didn’t have to deal with my outrageous happy mood and you didn’t have to worry about me getting on your nerves and….”
“Calleigh…”
“I thought it would be better for both of us if I just left, and I’d always dreamed of coming here and living with horses, and being on a farm because I’d dreamed of it as a little kid and….”
“Calleigh!”
“What?” she finally stopped. She looked at him, breathing heavily from being so nervous.
Tim moved out of the gate, shutting it behind him, and petting the horse as he whinnied. Calleigh felt at peace when he did that, since she’d never thought that Tim would be the kind to pet a horse like he was. He calmed the horse down, then looked to Calleigh. He came up to her and took a deep breath. “Calleigh, I wouldn’t have come all the way to Louisiana to deliver you a horse. I love you too Cal, I have since the day you took that picture,” he said, pointing to the open book that had been forgotten on the ground.
Calleigh swallowed, and looked up at him. “So….are you here to stay?” she asked hopefully. Tim smiled and nodded.
“If you’ll have me Calleigh, I love you,” he repeated. Calleigh smiled and wrapped her arms around his neck, inching her lips closer to his.
“I love you too Tim, so much,” she said. He finally closed the gap and kissed her, softly at first, but she deepened it, and let it go a lot longer than Tim had planned.
Tim was the first to pull away. “So you named the horse after me huh? I don’t know whether to be insulted or honored,” Tim joked. Calleigh laughed and pressed her forehead to his.
“I did it Tim, I finally broke away, just like I told myself. I’m finally happy, and it’s all because of you.”
“Well, it’s just not that easy to say goodbye.”
