Alliance Atlantis, the company the produces CSI may soon sell the program's formula to international markets.

This means that instead of seeing the original CSI dubbed in Italian, for example, the country would get its very own version CSI: Italy. This would allow the company to increase its CSI revenues.

"We're getting to a point where we can take a look at that," said Phyllis Yaffe, Alliance's chief executive officer. "We would do it carefully in order not to damage the three franchises that are there right now. But it is a way to expand the franchise in a territory, and in a language group particularly."

NBC has already experimented with their show Law and Order; the concept has been sold to France and Russia. Considering the popularity and relative newness of CSI abroad, however, Alliance isn't expected to do pull this move any time soon.

It could work, if the characters aren't exactly the same.
Here in Holland we have our own version of Without a Trace, and some characters are almost exactly copied. That's a shame.
