Timeline: Shortly after "Miscarriage Of Justice"
Notes: I've had this outlined out forever, but just got it written in story form this past weekend. I guess this is kind of like a missing scene type of thing.
Rating : PG-13
Pairing: Greg/Riley
Greg wondered why the suicide case had gotten under Riley's skin so badly. He wanted to ask her about it, but didn't want to invade her privacy. They were both in the locker room. Greg was staring at her.
"What?" She asked.
"Nevermind."
"No, what?"
"I was just wondering why you reacted to the case that way, but nevermind. You don't have to tell me; its none of my business. Just know that if there's anything that you ever need to talk about or if you just need an ear, I'm here. When we're not at work, feel free to give me a call any time for any reason." There was a long pause before she replied.
"I want to talk, Greg."
"Okay, I'm listening."
"Not here. Later, after work."
"Okay."
They were sitting in the park on a bench.
"I had a twin brother... Julian. He had a lot of problems and everyone tried to help him, but he ended up killing himself and I... I'm just ... pissed. He was really all I had. My parents drive me insane. He was the only one who was really on my side and he left me. What hurts the most is that I never saw it coming. He was my twin. I should have sensed it, but he convinced me that he was better. I was so stupid for believing him."
Greg took her hand. "No, Riley," he said softly, "you weren't stupid. You wanted to believe that he was okay. It's not your fault."
"I don't know who it is that I'm more upset with; him or myself."
Greg wiped away one of Riley's tears with his thumb. "You didn't do anything wrong, Ri." He hugged her.
"Thanks, Greg." She smiled slightly at him.
"Anytime." He wanted to kiss her, but he wasn't sure of how she'd react. After a bit, he could fight the urge no longer and he leaned in, placing his lips on hers softly.
Riley responded to the kiss at first, but then pulled away. "I don't need pity, Greg."
"I've been wanting to kiss you ever since we first met."
"Really?"
"Yes."
"In that case, kiss me again."
He smiled and obliged.
