When the house was quiet, Stella walked in and checked on Caroline. As she neared the crib, she seen her awake. "Hello there little angel love, having trouble sleeping"? "Meeew...", as she yawned, and closed her eyes again. Taking her to the window, Stella showed her NY at night.

"Do you see that, that's Grand Central Park, it's always lit up pretty, along with the NY bridge, and all those tiny moving lights, are cars zooming by". Watching at the door, Mac smiled, he knew how much Stella wished they had had another child, after they lost Caroline, but it just never happened.

Walking up towards her, he wrapped her and the baby in his arms, nestling them both closely to his chest. "You okay sweetheart"? "Mmhmm...fine, just enjoying NY with our granddaughter". "Listen Stel....I know how hurt you were that we never concieved again, as I was just as hurt, but we have our beautiful grandchildren to love".

"I know Mac...with tears pouring down her face, it just doesn't make it any easier". "I know Stel, but we have each other, and that's one blessing I'm proud of, that we've made it last what seems like a lifetime". Turning herself in his arms, they snuggled Caroline between them, and as she yawned again, she curled herself closer to Mac.

"Why is it all the children and grandchildren seem to prefer snuggling close to you"? "I'm not sure love, maybe it's because I sing to them, most baby's fine it very soothing". Taking his granddaughter into his arms, and his wife by the hand, he walked them both to their room.

"Mac...if you are going to do, what I think you are, you're going to spoil her". "Shhh....don't tell". Laying in the bed, with Caroline snuggled between them, Mac began to hum "Twinkle, twinkle", and as her little green eyes closed, he reached over, wrapped his closer, and fell asleep.

When Micael awoke in the morning, he walked into Caroline's room, and found her missing. Heading into his parents room, he slowly opened the door, and found them all sandwich together, even his son, was there, watching leading Michael to the conclusion his kids would be safe.

Heading back to his room, he began to pack, he knew he was wrong to leave this way, to leave his kids behind for a while, but he needed time, time to heal, time to forget. Writing a note it read.... "Dear mom and dad, I got called away to Washington for a case, very confidential, I'm sorry I didn't have tome to wake you, but you all look so peaceful, I'll call you when I'm settled. Love Michael".

Picking up his suitcase, he left the house, without looking back. Arriving at the Airport, he boarded his plane to DC. "Good morning sir, would you like a beverage, or some breakfast"? "No..I'm fine thank you, can you tell me how long till we arrive in DC"? "About two hours, avoiding turbulance". "Thank you".

When the plane landed, Michael got off, and met Tom, his friend from the Police Acadamy. "Hey Michael, how goes it"? "Not to good, I lost my wife, she died last night". "Oh God Michael, I'm so sorry, so where are the kids"? "With my parents, I'm not ready to bring them over yet". "Listen man, does your dad know why you are really here"? "No...and he don't need too".

Knowing Michael wasn't ready to talk about his family, he took him to his flat, to get him settled.

"Grandpa....grandpa wake up, I'm hungry". Slowly opening his eyes, he seen Mj watching him. "Why don't you go wake up daddy son"? "I did, but he wasn't there, he left a note, see". Reading the note over twice, Mac noticed somthing wasn't right. "Wake up Grandma, she'll make you pancakes". "Mmm..Grandma, can we have pancakes please"? "Sure MJ, give me a few minutes". "K grandma, want me change Caroline"? "Sure, that be nice".

"Mac...what's going on"? "It seems our son has ran off". "What...I don't believe that Mac, he wouldn't do that". "he did love, I read his note three times, between the lines, is I'm sorry, but I can't do it". "Aww..now what do we do, do we take the kids to DC"? "NO...if this is what he wants, this is what he shall have, when he returns, he'll have to prove to us he's changed, until then, the children will be ours, I'll file for temp custody today".

"Come on Mac, isn't that a bit much"? "A bit much, I hope you are kidding Stella, he has ran from his responsibility, not giving one thought as to how this would hurt his children, this is rediculous, I thought I brought up my children better then this". "You did Mac, he's really hurting, try and....". "No Stella, no matter what life threw at us, we never once left our children sides, we never once left them wondering why this tradgedy happened, but most of all, we now have to explain to his children, why daddy ran away";.

Sighing deep, Stella knew Mac was right, this was one lesson, her son needed to be taught.

"Grandpa, where is daddy"? "Well son, daddy had to go away for a while". "When will he be back"? "I'll tell you what son, as soon as we are done breakfast, how about I take you and Caroline to visit your Auntie". "Oh yay...I love playing with Sara, Sharon, Sandra, can we go now"? "As soon as I'm dressed, won't be long". "K, love you grandpa". "I love you too son".

Heading upstairs, Mac called Michael, he knew exactly where he was. "Hello". "Where's Michael, and don't you dare tell me, he's not there". "Michael...your dad". Taking the phone from his friend..."what is it dad"? "How dare you, how dare you leave your children alone, in their time of need, they've already lost parent, and then you leave them without a father".

"It's not like that dad, I need time, I just can't face it right now". "You can't face it, WHO THE HELL IS GOING TO BURY YOUR WIFE, WHO THE HELL IS GOING TO HOLD YOUR KIDS, AND COMFORT THEM, YOU HAVE TILL THE END OF THE DAY TO GET YOURSELF BACK HERE, IF YOU DON'T, YOU'LL NOT GET THESE KIDS BACK, i'LL FILE FOR CUSTODY AND KEEP THEM".

"Damn it dad, how dare you, not be understanding". "Oh I'm very understanding, the end of the day, I love you son, with all my heart, and I'll be here to help you, tonight, and no later". Hanging up the phone, Mac dressed and took the kids over to Mackenzie's. "Hi dad, how's Michael"? "I don't know, he took off last night, left the kids, said he couldn't handle it".

"Oh dad....I'm so sorry, he must be in so much pain". "Listen Mackenzie, pain or no pain, he has his children to think about, you don't run, just because life becomes to tough, he's a Taylor, and.....". "I know dad...Taylor's don't run from their responsibilities". Embracing her dad in a hug, she understood his frustration, but she also understood, this was the one time Michael was wrong.

Later at work, while Mac and Stella were working a crime scene, Michael knocked on his sister's door. "Michael...you cam home". Looking at his sister, he teared up, and fell to his knees. "Aww...damn it Michael, as she wrapped him in her arms, daddy wasn't being mean, he just needs you to understand". "I know that sis, I truely do, but I don't know how to survive without Salena, I just don't".

"Come on, over to couch, and we'll talk". "Where are my children"? "they are out with their Uncle, and the girls". "Listen Michael, as much as my pours for you, and it does pour, for I could feel your pain, all the way from Washington, but those children need their dad more then ever, especially Caroline, she don't understand, at two months, she doesn't even realise mommy is never coming home".

"I know, and I know how much my son is hurting, he has so many questions, I don't know how to answer". "That's okay Michael, you have dad, mom, and us, to help you answer those, that's what family does, family doesn't run away". Stroking her brothers hair, she allowed him to cry, until his tears stopped.

"I'll tell you what Michael, you get cleaned up, I'll call mom and dad to come over for dinner tonight, and we will all make arrangements and talk". "Thanks for everything Mackenzie, I love you". "I love you too Michael, and I promise we'll get through it, step by step, love, by love, we will get through it".

After Michael was upstairs, Mackenzie called her dad. "Taylor". "Hi daddy, are you busy"? "A little love, we are just finishing up a crime scene". "Oh wow...listen Michael's home, he showed up at my door, I think it's a good idea if we all get together for dinner tonight, and discuss Salena". "That sounds like a good idea, how is he"? "Very messed up dad, I've never seen him like this, his pain is overpowering me".

"I know love, it's that closeness you two have, I'm sorry you're feeling it so much love, we'll be there as soon as we can". "Okay dad, love you". "Love you too Mackenzie".

"

When Mac and Stella showed up, Michael was sitting on the couch, playing blocks with Caroline. "Yay dada...I wins", as she clapped her hands when the castle fell down. "Daddy....where is mommy, why hasn't she come home yet from the hospital"? "Leave it to his son, to ask the question.

"Hey my boy, cpme see Grandpa, sit on my knee, I have a little story to tell you, about Angel's". "Okay grandpa, is it a long story, and how come Caroline don't have to listen"? "While...Caroline is a little young, to understand, but you, you are a big boy, one who can help your sister later".

"Okay granpa". "Last night, your mommy was rushed to the hospital, she had very bad pains in her chest, which made it hard for her to breathe". "But why, I don't understand why she couldn't breathe"? "It was because of a little clot, it's like a round circular shape pile of broken vessels, that tangel up and become clots, little balls".

"Well...when these little clots losen, they sometimes get caught in our valves, to big to move, which stops us from breathing right". "Is this why mommy died, cause she couldn't breathe"? "That's right love, it kind of got stuck there, not capable of being released soon enough".

"Did mommy suffer"? "A little bit son, she would have felt a little pain, but not alot, because the doctors had her on heavey medication to break up the clot". "So then, mommy's never coming home, she's in Heaven with Caroline, Uncle Flack's wife"? "She is son, she's an angel, protecting you now, keeping you safe".

"Then I want to be an angel too, cause mommy needs me, she must be aweful scared". "Listen...if you go up there, who will take care of your daddy, and Caroline, who love you so much, you need to be the big boy now, it's your job to help protect your sister, and keep her safe".

"Grandpa, can we see mommy please, I want to say good bye". "Sure son, I'll make the arrangements, and we'll go tonight". "I love you granpa". "I love you to son, but I think your daddy really needs your love". "Cause he's very sad grandpa"? "Yes son, he's very sad".

Walking up to his daddy, he sat on his lap, looked into his eyes, and said...."don't worry daddy, I'm here for you, I will look after you and Caroline, we'll be okay, cause we are Taylor's, and Taylor's always stay strong".

Kissing his son, between his eyes, he pulled him close, and rocked him, in his arms.

The following morning, Mac went to the Crematorium with his family, and as they waited, Michael began to try again. "Come on Michael, be strong for the kids, don't let them see how hurt you are". "I know sis, I'm trying, really trying. "Excuse me, you must be the Taylor's, please follow me". As they followed the little man into the room, the children seen their mom, laying on a bed, like she was sleeping.

"Mommy....called her son, I'm here to say good bye mommy, cause I know you are an angel, watching me, and I have to be strong, to take care of daddy, and Caroline". Sitting up beside his mom, without fear, he kissed her cheeck. "Mommy's cold daddy, why is she cold"? "That's special stuff they put in mommy, to help preserve her, keep her looking beautiful".

"Oh....can I go now, I love you mommy, see you in heaven". Jumping down, Mac and the family left the room, leaving Michael behind to say good bye. "Hello my beautiful Salena, I guess this is our last good bye, and I know you know, how hard it is going to be for me to raise our children, but I'll do that best I can to care for them, and make you proud".

With tears pouring down his eyes, he bent down and kissed her on the lips, whispering, "I love you, always". Taking the blanket, he covered her face, and left the room, without looking back. "Daddy....can we go to McDonald's for lunch"? "Sure son, let's go, you can have whatever you want".

After lunch, Mac and Stella headed back into work, while Mackenzie got Michael and the kids settled into a routine at their home. "Okay...I've left you rules for the kids, bed time is at 7pm, no excuses, wake up time for school, 8am, and then it's off to the bus for MJ, and daycare for Caroline, understood"?

"Yeah...I get it, now how about dinner, I don't know how to cook"? "That's easy. Mom and I will take turns making meals, and bringing them over. "Now on tuesday's MJ has soccer practise, at 7:30pm, he can't be late, so you drop Caroline off to me, and I'll watch her". Nodding in agreement, Michael changed Caroline, getting her ready for bed.

"Daddy, can I watch cartoons"? 'Not tonight soon, it's already 6:15, bath time, let's go". Heading upstairs to bathe, Michael had some alone time, and decided t take done some picture's of Salena. "Daddy...why you taking down mommy's pictures"? "Well son, it's so you, Caroline and I can make new memories".

"May I have this big one for my room daddy, I always loved it". "Sure you can sport, now into bed, daddy hang it in the morning". "Okay, night daddy, love you"? "I love you too son, 'll be up soon, to read you a story". "Yay...okay daddy, I'll wait for you".

Back at home, Mac and Stella found their place very lonely once again. "Mac...ummm....I was thinking, maybe we should leave for our vacation afterall, the kids seem okay now, and I'm....well...it's too...". Wrapping her in his arms, he knew she was missing the kids, the noise, the attention, the fun. "Sure sweetheart, we'll leave in the morning".

While she packed everything up, she teared up again, she so missed having another child, and she could never understand why they didn't concieve again. "Aww...come on love, it's going to be okay, believe me, I would love nothing more than t give you another child, but at our age, it wouldn't be fair to the child, I mean I'm 53, and you're just pushing 30 again, he laughed.

"Very funny Taylor, and for your information, I've seen woman pregnant at 48, and they do fine". "I know that Stel....but do you really want another, our's are all grown up, and we have our granchildren to play with". "I guess you are right, I just miss it, the cravings, the kicking, the late night feedings, I don't know, maybe I'm just having my mid life crisis, cause I know it's not my change, for I still have monthly flows".

"I'll tell you what love, how about we forget the baby thing, and we play peek-a-seek, before we leave". Laughing...you are so naughty Mac, but okay, you gotta count to five, before ou find me, and no cheating". "One...two...three...four....five...ready or not, here I come". As Mac searched the house, he didn't have to go very far, for Stella always hid behind the fridge, she seemed to like getting attacked there.

"One, two three, on you, now I get to peek-a-boo". Picking his wife up in his arms, he tossed her over the sofa, placed his hands under her shirt, and kissed the nape of her neck, while she grinded against him. "Mmm...please Mac, I'm more than ready". Removing her pants, and his, he slipped into her like a wish, and as they moved soul to soul, Stella released an egg, and as Mac poured forth, he fertilized it, planting it soundly within his wife's womb.

"Are you ready for vacation now baby"? "Mmmhmmm....let's go, I'm sure Horatio, Calleigh, and the kids, will be happy to see us again". Redressing, they grabbed their bags, and left for the airport. "Good bye NY, see you in two weeks".
