CSI: Crime Scene Investigations creator Anthony Zuiker cited the fact that New York is the "heart and soul of America" as the motivator for setting the third CSI show in the Big Apple.
According to USA Today, CSI: New York will only feature two primary characters, backed up by a group of non-regular characters. This differs from the other two CSI shows, both of which feature ensembles casts. The two lead roles have yet to be cast.
Zuiker is enthusiastic about the change from a large cast to a small one. "It will really emphasize the characters, and emphasize New York as a character," he said of the decision.
USA Today is also reporting that the show will likely be shot in Los Angeles, where both CSI and CSI: Miami are currently filmed, with occasionally trips to New York for filming. However, public officials in New York are eager to have the show filmed there, and are lobbying CBS with that in mind. (story).
