‘CSI’ Franchise Comes Up Empty Handed

The CSI franchise came up empty handed at the 38th annual NAACP Image awards on March 2, 2007. Four members of the franchise were nominated: CSI actor <font color=yellow>Gary Dourdan</font> for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, CSI writer <font color=yellow>Naren Shankar</font> was nominated for the episode “Killer”, CSI:Miami actress <font color=yellow>Khandi Alexander</font> for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, and CSI:NY actor <font color=yellow>Hill Harper</font> for Outstanding Acting in a Drama Series.

Gary Dourdan is no stranger to the Image awards. He has been nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series each year since 2003, winning in 2003 and 2006. This year the honor in that category went to <font color=yellow>Omar Epps</font> of House.

Naren Shanker may not have won for Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series, but his work has been recognized with a host of prior nominations including Emmys, Edgar, and WGA. He won a Writers Guild of Canada award in 2000 for his writing on The Outer Limits.

Khandi Alexander was nominated for Image awards in 1998, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, and 2007. She won in 2005 for her work on CSI:Miami. This year she lost to <font color=yellow>Chandra Wilson</font> of Grey’s Anatomy

Hill Harper was nominated for an Image award for his work on City of Angels in 2001. He has been nominated for his work on CSI:NY each year since 2005. In 2000 he won a Method Fest Best Actor award for his work on the film The Visit. This year’s Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series award went to <font color=yellow>Isiah Washington</font> of Grey’s Anatomy.

Harper himself didn't walk away empty-handed; he received two awards for his 2006 inspirational book Letters to a Young Brother. He was given both the Best Debut Author award and the Best Book for Youth/Teens award for the work, which is a combination of a memoir and advice for young people making their way in the world.
