    CSI books.

Other than gearing up to start working on the next CSI-LV novel, I don't have a clue as to what PocketBooks intends to do in terms of their future CSI-story publishing. I'm just one of the hired writers ... and perfectly content to leave it at that.

    CSI books.

You don't think they're fast enough already (in the fictional CSI sense)??? If us fictional CSI writers make the analytical tests any faster than they're already portrayed, the real-life forensic geneticists (and other forensic scientists) will really start to flop around on the floor in...

    CSI Kits

Ummm. I think you've been given the wrong impression about buying CSI suppies (ie: latent print powers, flap lifts, lift tape, brushes, etc etc). All you have to do is make a Web search (ie: Google or Yahoo 'latent print supplies'), select one of 30-50 companies, look through their catalog and...

    Forensics Questions

When I started out in forensic science (way back in 1968), criminalists (forensic scientists) typically responded to major scenes such as homicides and kidnappings, and uniformed/sworn CSI officers responded to routine crime scenes such as burglaries. Sadly, and for many reasons, rape and...

    Forensics Questions

I'm not a pathologist, but I've attended a lot of autopsies and I can't ever remember a pathologist washing out the subject's mouth before or during an autopsy. The general procedure was 1) transfer the body from the body bag to the table; 2) set the body bag aside for later examination...

    Forensics Questions

For those of you interested in a forensic science career, three suggestions: 1) be aware that most crime labs today hire scientists for specific jobs such as genetics (DNA), toxicology, drug ID, firearms, latent prints, and digital evidence. Each specialty requires a different educational...

    CSI books.

I'm sure any new CSI team would have to be approved by CBS et al. Not something I'd really be interested in doing ... mostly because I can create new characters/teams/scenarios with my other thriller book projects, and not have to worry about being true to established series/protocols. So far...

    CSI books.

Given my recent (international) work in developing CSI techniques to investigate damaged coral reefs, CSI-Miami would probably be a fun backdrop for CSI stories; however, Pocket Books only hired me to write CSI-LV books ... and the fact that I used to work CSI (as a deputy sheriff/criminalist)...

    CSI books.

I'm pretty sure that Max Collins has stopped writing CSI (LV) books ... mostly because I've started writing them for Pocket Books. I finished the first one (IN EXTREMIS) a few weeks ago. Assuming the manuscript gets final CBS-CSI approval, the book should be available in bookstores sometime in...

My statement on Virginia Tech shootings.........

I would offer the viewpoint that if every student was allowed to carry a firearm, and tried to defend themselves against an attack like this, the 'collateral damage' resulting from the confusion as to who was who --- not to mention all of the bullets flying in all directions for long distances...

    CSI Kit

The vast majority of the CSI programs (and CSIs) I'm aware of make their own kits ... which is to say they purchase the varying components and put them into one or more kits that either fit in the trunk of a car or into the larger storage spaces of a CSI van. When I was working CSI for two...

    Would you become a CSI?

Well, okay ... almost figured it out (previous post). Old guy/new trick. Takes time. :)

Welcome to the Forensic Science Thread!

Re: Welcome to the Forensic Science Forum Given your interests, the nice thing about conducting ballistics exams is that you would get to shoot things ... mostly water (ballistics recovery tank), cotton (cotton box bullet recovery system) and paper (gsrs and distance determinations). Not sure...

    Would you become a CSI?

Ooops, didn't realize that I hadn't answered Bluntforcetrauma's question. I was hired by PocketBooks (Simon & Schriebner) just to write books based on the Las Vegas series. IN EXTREMIS will be the first. I make use of CSI characters and procedures in most of my other previously published...

    Would you become a CSI?

I can't imagine that degrees from the UK wouldn't be accepted in the U.S.; but you might run into citizenship requirements in applying for jobs in law enforcement. For example: U.S. citizenship is required for all federal government job applicants.

    CSI books.

Re: IN EXTREMIS (the next CSI-LV novel)... I finished the manuscript (or, more accurately, the first draft) last night. Not sure how long it will take Pocket Books to get the book published, once we agree on the final manuscript, but my editor (Ed Schlesinger) seems real thoughtful and energetic...

    Would you become a CSI?

Yeah, I agree about the "wouldn't stay turned" comment. Hate to admit it, but I started to write a treatment for a CSI TV series about 15 years ago, but then stopped because I couldn't believe anyone would find such a show interesting or entertaining. Real CSI, as you've undoubtedly gathered...

    Would you become a CSI?

As the criminals get more innovative, thoughtful and technically educated/equipped (by watching CSI??), we're going to have to adapt ... as is happening now with digital evidence. Its also interesting to observe --- if that's the right term --- the growing number of assaults on our computer...
