I agree that Nick is just being honest with Sara by telling her he got the non-promotion. In his mind it wouldn't have mattered by then anyhow. And Nick's always been upfront with Sara: remember when he told her to get out more? He's not trying to hurt her feelings or anything, just looking out...

^^^ I know! If not for WP's family tragedy, tptb would never have given Nick this kind of storyline. It's kinda sad, if you think about it.

To be fair, I think Grissom getting emotional over the missing girl would've been very believable, too. Granted, we don't know much about his motivation like we do with Catherine or Nick, but he's always had issues with crimes against children - in a subtle, Grissom way - the most recent example...

Greg woud've been fine in the lab if the transition storyline never happened. But now there's no going back, I'm afraid. I love to see his fun and goofy side, but back to the lab is not the way to go. Look how miserable he was in "Room Service"! I actually think tptb is doing a pretty good job...
