I've always imagined that Greg's parents were both academics. I would like to think that they both have their Ph.D's, but I suppose we will never know since the writers don't seem to want to explore Greg's life very much.

Personally, I would hate to see Eric play a psychopath. I couldn't stand to watch it. I would, however, like to see him play a leading man role, or as mentioned before in a comedy.
