    Grade 'Shop Till You Drop'

you could, of course, argue that happy staff = better customer service which brings in more trade thru word of mouth than advertising anyway... i dunno, i was quite pleased to see a hollywood show espousing an almost socialist point of view! but then, property is theft, so i would say that...

agreed - to me this kind of murder is no worse than murder in self defence. of course in an ideal world it wouldn't have to happen, and the technicalities are slightly different (given that the threat is systematic rather than immediate) but it's a very similar thing i think.

i know you do, and i'm sure it does, for many people. just not for me. even now my life is reasonably ok, if i get hit by a bus later today it'll be no odds on me because i'm quite happy to die whenever it happens. that's not to say i'm actively suicidal (at least not right now) but y'know, i...

i agree, i think it's great that something as lowbrow (so to speak) as a weekly crime show can spark a debate like this! there was only one more thing i wanted to say right now, about this: i don't think it's a flawed view of humanity at all. my own views are about as cynical and misanthropic...

    What's On Your Bucket List?

i love that book, it's one of my all time favourites, but i've not read it in french (yet!), mainly because it's not been on the course at uni (we've done lots of quite similar and/or contemporary french books but not that one), but i would also like to read it in french. as for the level of...

^ i want a "like" button, dammit! i don't think that should be an issue when judging her for killing him. many many abused partners return to their abuser many times - this is because abuse (of any variety, sexual, physical or psychological) erodes the abused party's confidence to the point...

i pretty much totally agreed with la guera too, but i can't totally agree with this. i agree that prison would be wrong and would only make things worse. but y'know, mental facilities aren't a lot better/different. of course in an ideal world people in them get the help they need and all, but...

    What's On Your Bucket List?

hmm good question. i'd also like to get more languages - my french isn't bad but i'd like to be fluent, my russian is bad but i'd like to be better :) there are some places i'd like to visit but tbh i've been a lot of the places i've wanted to go already. i'd love to go back to russia, see...

i don't think it's propaganda at all. 2 episodes in a franchise comprising *counts* about 24 seasons between the 3 branches doesn't seem excessive at all, and especially not when compared with how much more often these stories occur in real life. as for whether an abused child/person should...

    Quiz Thread #5

verbose films: 13/20 missing song words: 18/20 (i would hope so, with my claims of being a music geek!) drawing a blank: 60/60 - woop! i wanted to do the cereals too but they're all american ones which are different from ours so i just wouldn't have known more than a couple of them. british...

    World Politics

^ yeah, even my friends organising the occupations were disappointed by the few that got violent. that said, much of the violence was provoked/started by the police who used violence first, and that's even sadder. article about protests in cambridge where police started the violence...

    Season 7 Ratings

i don't think so, i watched them out of sequence at first too. then i had a marathon and rewatched them in order. actually i've done that a few times. although not all at once, i didn't sit and watch 6 seasons in one go! just a few episodes at a time :)

as one of my friends put it "She makes Bush II look like a combination of Karl Marx and Thomas Jefferson - he's a political, social and financial genius compared to this specimen. Dark times ahead..." the protests were, well, still are, they're ongoing, an interesting time. for the first time...

am i right in thinking you already have s2? i think 3 is probably the best one to go for next, it's not my personal favourite but s1 (which is!) is kind of an acquired taste, i know lots of people here didn't like it as much, because it's a lot darker etc. personally i loved that about it but...

^ palin doesn't know what she's talking about anyway, she thinks USA and N Korea are on the same side! lovely to see so many students and school kids turn out for massive protests against cuts and tuition fees across the uk today, a real shame (but very predictable) to see the cops employing...

Gary #7; Baby, You can be my Breakfast

yeah i think older ones are generally better - but that might be because i'd rather hear/read about steppenwolf and stuff than csi:ny (don't get me wrong, i like csi:ny lots, but there's only so much you can say about it!) erm, the bomb interview is here...

Season 7 Spoiler Discussion part 2 - Fighting Crime In Gotham

it's probably in a cupboard with her bus pass and false teeth. i wondered if it was maybe for an xmas ep or something too but they film those weeks ago, don't they? i mean usually, like last year's xmas ep was done in sept or something?
