I remember when Snuffaluffagus was invisible to everyone too. He was my favorite. I can remember most of the characters, but have trouble remembering the names of all the human ones. :lol: Anyone else watch Electric Company when they were little? I think that's the one where I read that Morgan Freeman was on? I'd love to watch some of those old episodes

 

Yeah, Morgan Freeman and Rita Moreno! I used to watch Electric Company, and then my older brother (8 years older) would watch ZOOM. He had the hots for one of the girls on there! :lol: Then we'd fight over the TV because he wanted to watch Star Trek and I wanted to watch Battle of the Planets. Of course I became a Star Trek fan later on, but back then I wanted my cartoons!

I don't know if any of you watch "Family Guy", but whenever someone on the show mentions the electric company (like, they need to pay the bill or whatever), they show a little cartoon version of the intro to The Electric Company. Too funny. That show is also awesome because they do reference so many things from the old days- I think Seth McFarlane, the writer, is around my age because I almost always get all the old references and they make me howl!

 

Just jumping in here to leave a link that Baba might appreciate. I have a bit of a thing for 'geeky' t-shirts (mostly BSG related, but I like others too).

Laura Roslin is the President of the 12 colonies in Battlestar Galactica. With '08 being election year in the US, it's just a reference to that really. 'So Say We All' is BSG's catchphrase.

 

Ah, of course. I always meant to watch that, but since I missed the beginning I need to go back and start at the start. I've got some renting ahead of me!

Speaking of BSG... I used to alternate my crushes between Starbuck and Apollo on the old series. It changed bi-weekly, I think! I did love that mechanical dog, though.

 

The Holodeck is for porn :guffaw: Now we know what happened when they went in there on Star Trek: The Next Generation! Too funny! :lol: Cool t-shirts.

I watched Electric Company too. Zoom also. And, of course, Mister Roger's Neighborhood. I loved when the trolly would come and take us to the Neighborhood of Make Believe.

 

I didn't really watch the original Battlestar, but the new, re-imagined Ronald D Moore version has for me, been a masterpiece. It doesn't fit into the typical sci-fi mould at all really. For anyone who hasn't seen it, I would highly recommend watching the mini-series to begin with, which is only 3 hours long, and sets up the whole premise of the story. You will know from watching this if it's the type of show that appeals to you. It blew me away!

Anyway, just thought I would add that!

 

I remember when the original Battlestar came out, I think it was to capitalize on the Star Wars phenomenon... they even got sued because the Cylons looked a little too much like Darth Vader.

And then suddenly we were into the 80's, or the "me" decade. I think money and cocaine and fast living were the themes of the times. Fortunately, I was too young for all that.

Was Ultraman a cartoon? I'm picturing Space Ghost and... Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law! :lol: Sorry, I can't get the Cartoon Network "updated" comedy versions out of my mind.

I also remember this cartoon "Johnny Quest", but I never really watched it. Seemed like it was on forever.

 

According to IMDB,com, it was a Japanese animated series back in 1972. One of the voices, Peter Fernandez, still works today. He was a local announcer in the Speed Racer films, and has done directing, writing, and dialog coach. Another, Corinne Orr, was a Grand Prix Female Announcer in the Speed Racer Film.

Jonny Quest seems like it went on forever because there were series that started in 1964, 1986, and 1996. The voice of the 1964 JQ was Tim Matheson, who was in Animal House and more secently in West Wing, Shark, and Burn Notice.

Since you mentioned some super hero type characters, here are a couple of live action super hero sitcoms from way back when:

Captain Nice (1967): starred William Daniels (voice of original KITT in Knight Rider, George Feeny on Boy Meets World, Dr Craig on St Elsewhere) as a chemist in a police department who discovered a liquid which could turn him into Captain Nice, an odd sort of superhero: very shy and dominated by his mother. Captain Nice flew (he feared heights) in his tattered leotards, fighting badguys because his mother told him to do so.

Mr Terrific (also 1967): starred Stephen Strimpell as Stanley Beamish, the weakling proprietor of a Washington gas station, who is also a top-secret super agent. When the Government's Bureau of Special Projects needs Stanley, he takes a pill that gives him an hour's worth of strength, courage and flying time.

 

I loved watching the original Battlestar. Starbuck was my favorite.

I think I might be the only person who didn't watch Ultraman when I was a kid, but I used to watch Johnny Sokko and his Flying Robot. Kind of along the same lines, but I've never found anyone else who ever used to watch it.
