bird_of_flame, even if he was in the Boy Scouts, I don't think he did very well...He was probably kicked out, lol. Aw, I can imagine little Eric running after the...Man Scout leader man (*lifts brow*) because he thought he was a bear.

Anni: *walks in* Can we talk?

Katie: Sure.

Anni: *sits down* You probably heard the argument, right?

Katie: Yeah.

Anni: I'm sorry, I didn't mean to have everyone hear that.

Katie: You get angry. You're human.

Anni: Yeah. Look, this whole thing needs to stop.

Katie: I know. I was an idiot. I'm really sorry. He married you, we've been over for years.

Anni: I'm glad you finally realized that.

Katie: I just couldn't seem to let go. I mean, he's really all I have.

Anni: Hey, you have all of us.

Katie: Sometimes it doesn't feel like it. I mean, I really feel comfortable around him, y'know?

Anni: I know.

Katie: I just thought that maybe if I held onto him, that I wouldn't have to do anything on my own anymore.

Anni: You're not alone.

Katie: Yeah Horatio keeps telling me that.

Anni: He's usually right.

Katie: Of course he is. If he wasn't right, his name wouldn't be Horatio.

Anni: *laughs* Yeah.

Katie: Look, we've been friends for a long time. I don't want to lose a friend over something so stupid as what I've been doing.

Anni: Well you did shoot me.

Katie: Yeah I know.

Anni: You know, I was going to come up here and yell, scream, throw things, but...What's it going to solve? Nothing.

Katie: So why bother coming up here?

Anni: Because the common denominators left are us.

Katie: *nods*

Anni: *hugs Katie* I forgive you.

Katie: *lifts brow*

Anni: *lets go* There.

Katie: *starts to cry*

Anni: What? What did I do?

Katie: *crying* No one ever forgives me.

Miami, three weeks later

Ryan: *looking at folder*

Tripp: *walks over* New case?

Ryan: Old case.

Tripp: What about?

Ryan: One of the first cases that I worked solo, this guy, Barry Mendez was a suspect in the murder of his wife. Apparently whoever it was, walked up, shot her in the head and walked away. She'd just come home from grocery shopping.

Tripp: Why's it re-opened.

Ryan: His lawyer said PD found new evidence at the wife's house.

Tripp: They were divorced?

Ryan: *shakes head* She worked in a different county so she bought a house there.

Tripp: What's this new evidence?

Ryan: Burned clothing with trace amounts of blood.

Tripp: Maybe the guy doused his clothes after shooting his wife.

Ryan: Clothes belong to a woman.

Tripp: How can you tell?

Ryan: It was remenants of a skirt and low-cut top.

Tripp: Oh.

Ryan: I'm supposed to be meeting with the prosecuter in the case *looks at watch* Right about...*looks across room*

Tripp: Isn't that Lori?

Ryan: Excuse me. *walks away*

Near elevator

Ryan: No more undercover work?

Lori: I applied in Miami before I left.

Ryan: Applied for what?

Lori: Did I ever mention I spent three years in law school after I left the first time?

Ryan: You were a lawyer with the foreign affairs department.

Lori: I couldn't divulge that information but I'm no longer working there so, yes I was.

Ryan: Why are you here.

Lori: I'm assigned to the Mendez case. Where's your friend Lilly?

Ryan: I don't know. I haven't seen her in almost a month.

Lori: She skipped out on you, that's classy.

Ryan: I'm supposed to be meeting with you on this case.

Lori: Mhm. I need all the evidence PD collected.

Ryan: Why?

Lori: So I can make my case. It is standard practice to get a hold of the CSI in a case, correct?

Ryan: In court.

Lori: I want the information.

Ryan: You'll have to wait until trial.

Lori: Just tell me what was found.

Ryan: Burned fabric.

Lori: Where was it found?

Ryan: That's none of your business.

Lori: You'd tell a defense lawyer.

Ryan: ....Behind the house under the barbeque.

Lori: Good. I want to see it.

Ryan: You'll see it at trial.

Lori: No, I want to see it right now.

Ryan: *frowns* Trial.

Lori: Now.

Ryan: Are you being an ass because you left, or are you always like this?

Lori: *laughs* Ryan, learn to let things go. Stay professional for your sake, please.

Ryan: Fine.

Lori: May I please see the evidence?

Ryan: The guy's innocent.

Lori: I'm afraid you can't make that determination.

Ryan: The clothing is from a woman.

Lori: Maybe the guy likes to play dress-up.

Ryan: You ever think of maybe joining IAB? They'd love you.

Lori: I don't want to be a cop.

Ryan: Believe me, they're far from cops.

Speed: *walks over* Something wrong here?

Ryan: Look who's back.

Speed: Well the beauty of being a higher rank than you is I get aprised of everything first.

Ryan: *rolls eyes*

Speed: So what's the problem?

Lori: Ryan here was just about to show me to the evidence.

Ryan: And I told her to wait until the trial.

Speed: Both sides of the table get to see the evidence against the accused whether it's defense or prosecution.

Lori: *smiles*

Speed: When we're finished with it.

Lori: *smile fades*

Speed: Take a number.

Lori: *frowns*

Speed: *walks away*

Ryan: Looks like he's got the whole 'professional' thing down to a science.

Lori: If there's one thing you should know about me is I don't lose so cool your heels.

Ryan: Good luck on the case.

Lori: *looks down hall*

Ryan: *steps in front of Lori* Get back in the elevator and leave the building.

Lori: Mind if I speak to your boss for a minute?

Ryan: Get a visitor pass.

Lori: *nods*

Halls

Lori: *hands over folder* Guy has a history of assault and battery. Wife claims he was dangerous, which is why she bought the second house in a different county. She had a restraining order out on him two years ago which was lifted because they had resolved their conflict, so he says.

Speed: You talk to the family?

Lori: I spoke to officers who responded to several domestic disputes in the area, all related to Mendez.

Speed: What do you want me to do about it?

Lori: Shadow Wolfe.

Speed: It's his case.

Lori: I want the evidence processed properly.

Speed: He is just as capable as I am.

Lori: *stops walking* A murderer is going to be out on the streets by supper time while CSI is taking their time processing pieces of fabric found under a barbeque.

Speed: You wanted it done properly.

Lori: Ever find the murder weapon?

Speed: No.

Lori: *hands over paper* Mendez registered a .45 last December. The shot that killed his wife was a .45 calibre gun. Interesting that a warrant was never served on his house.

Speed: The guy confessed.

Lori: Exactly. So why's he getting out?

Speed: We found new evidence to suggest a third party was there and we don't have a murder weapon.

Lori: Because CSI stopped looking after he signed the confession.

Speed: Yeah.

Lori: He killed his wife.

Speed: I don't have the luxury of agreeing or disagreeing with you.

Lori: *shakes head*

Speed: *reading folder*

Lori: *crosses arms*

Speed: *flips page*

Lori: You finished?

Speed: Patience isn't exactly one of your virtues, is it?

Lori: *grabs folder*

Speed: *looks at Lori*

Lori: ...

Speed: You're lucky mine is.

Lori: *stares at Speed*

Speed: Don't ever do that again.

Lori: Yes sir.

Speed: Go see Wolfe about the case. *walks away*

Lori: *angry sigh*
