Well okay but even in reality sometimes they get away with things. I guess we wouldn't really understand it until its happened to us. We tend to make the mistake of thinkin everything on television is a fake, but in reality some of these things DO happen. But i do see your point now.
Wow. Didn't expect so many posts... After reading through them I feel like I should've called the thread differently... Something like "If I had a power to change one (some) things in CSI (LV, M, or NY), it would be... ". Would sound much more appropriate... Latest addition to the batch: 1. I don't really like when in Miami's Alexx talks to bodies, and every single one of them is "hun, dear, sweety, baby... etc". I understand compassion and everything, but when you see a half-burnt maggot-infected gas-bloated body being pulled from inside the trunk of the car that was submerged in the water for a month... No matter how unjustified or horrible the crime was, and how sweet the vic was in life... It sounds wrong... 2. Horatio... enough said already... 3. Addition to the computer things... Whenever they have a suspect computer, they work on it directly. I spoke to a guy who works in computer forensics (in real life it is). The first thing they do is to make a bit-by-bit copy of the hard-drive, and work on it. Whenever the suspect's computer started, the OS makes changes to files on it. It makes whatever evidences unadmissible in court! Let alone the possibility of a resident program hiding in start-up that would scramble all info if certain key combo isn't pressed within first x min. There were cases (real ones again) when there were explosives in the case, and turning the system on without knowing how to disable it would cause a nice explosion, the size of which only determined by the evilness of the owner. 4. They walk around, asking to enter the premises (appt's and houses), to collect DNA, and people (usually getting convicted in the end) are willingly participate. I swear to god, I have nothing against police (or investigators, or forensics), but I have nothing for them either. And ".. to exclude you from the investigation..." wouldn't fly with me... Last or second last Miami - Delco asked to collect lipstick sample and a DNA sample from a chick, and suddenly she breaks down into tears and ratts out her boyfriend. WTF? I can't really think of anything about NY. Maybe the only think I remember is the episode "Tanglewood" (113) in which they raise some questions about involvement of Danny with "Tanglewood Boys", but I don't remember it being completed. If they waiting to drop a bomb some time later - ok. But if this line is a dead end - then :S wtf again? All right That's it for today. Still haven't watched this week's episodes. Well not everyone is iron-clad against the cops, sometimes even the mere suggestion of wrong-doing on their behalf would make someone crumble. That's almost kind of funny about the explosives in the computer--very interesting. I can only imagine a Naked Gun-esque deal where the stick of dynamite is jammed into the keyboard...or the CD-ROM drive. Don't press the button! Don't you think that if someone who were smart enough to put some of those programs on their computer after committing a crime, would know enough how to get the incriminating evidence off of their computer without resorting to--emergency software?
The Alexx thing, im with you 100% - it was funny the first 100 times but after that it tends to get on my last nerve. Its like - theyre dead, Alexx they cant hear you get over yourself! (sorry, any alexx fans im just speakin my mind) and i agree with beautiful_loser if your smart enough to put an explosion like that, and it must be an intricate operation - youd nkow how to get rid of your computer crime in the first place. Another thing that annoys me bout CSI is when they almost always get the answer in a matter of ..what, 2 days? Doesnt seem so realistic to me. And theres some cases where they notice someting ALMOST IMMEDIATELY after entering the crime scene, when in reality its not the first thing you would find ( sorry i cant suport my argument now i cant remember a specific ep! )
beautiful_loser I am not talking about a sick of dynamite inside the keyboard. It is quite obvious that only the dumbest of the dumbest wouldn't clean up all the tracks after the crime is done. I am talking about caution when "work is in progress". How about "hit by a bus" situation? Or if your accomplice got caught DUI and the investigation let to you? How about... million other things that can happen? I read 100+ pages threads dedicated to that problem. How do I delete the content of the HDD in seconds? Tax evasion, bookies, porn, hackers. Even the active P2P user might want to have something like that (i mean a program, not TNT). Roka4csi ...matter of 2 days... It is not realistic, but this is the least of the worries. It's been said before - you can't have one crime investigated the whole season.
Belive it or not, I was thinking about "24" when I was writing the last post. But then can you imagine CSI where to process the print would take one episode? Just last CSI LV would make a nice season - 12 bodies Now that I think about it I want to laugh more and more
I really don't get your "hit by a bus" scenario, or "works in progress" scenario. How would a DWI investigation lead to you? And what kind of information would you have like that on your computer?? And criminals aren't always smart, or evasive, you should remember that. If they were, then no one would ever be caught. And I forgot that sarcasm is not as easily detected in print/on screen as it is off...
Yeah, definitely! Especially in the lab, they're supposed to wear face masks, as well as gloves and lab coats, but they don't! I actually saw a special about CSI:Miami and there are two people behind the scenes that the show consults to make sure everything is as accurate as possible. But, one of the consultants admitted that there were things that were wrong, such as the fact that face masks have to be worn in the lab, but she also said that for the sake of understanding what the actors were saying, they don't wear the face masks. Grr!! I don't like when stuff's inaccurate...it definitely takes something away from the show, at least for me anyways...
Yes exactly! The hair thing has always bothered me... what if one of their hairs gets on the crime scene or something! I mean even in chemistry lab, we'd get in trouble for not tying our hair back - it should be even more stressed on for crime scenes, theyre analyzing evidence, not just mixing chemicals. Criminology ( and i know some of you will argue against this ) focuses on the police part more than just the science. Contrary to what CSI always shows, coroners dont only deal with dead bodies, they deal with the rape victims, beat up peopl... etc... i dont remember CSI showing that

I totally agree w/ GeorgeEadsLover a/b the yobling thing. i'm from the south so havin a white girl w/a black man don't fit 2 well w/me! I don't hv n e thing against black ppl though.
