Re: TalkCSI LPS #1: Challenge 1 - Tranquility CHALLENGE 1: Tranquility – Voting ~ lea and kazzy have failed to submit a photo and are automatically eliminated. For those of you who aren’t aware, the voting for this is different from the previous photo competitions I’ve run, so please read this post carefully before voting. RULES: [1] Please vote for the top 3 of least quality. You need to include a valid reason for each vote, otherwise it won't be counted. [2] Any member of this board may vote. [3] The photographers with the top two number of votes will be eliminated. Here are some examples of good reasons: 31: The photo is overexposed 44: The photo is underexposed 59: Not enough contrast (between colours and/or shapes) 63: Ineffective composition (e.g. the photo has too many elements/no main point of interest) 57: Lack of texture 80: Too much depth of field (objects in sharp focus not standing out clearly enough from background details) Examples of bad reasons: 44: I hate the colours in the photo (personal preference) 63: The photo is boring Here are the photos Tranquility 01 Tranquility 02 Tranquility 03 Tranquility 04 Tranquility 05 Tranquility 06 Tranquility 07 Tranquility 08 Tranquility 09 Tranquility 10 Tranquility 11 Tranquility 12 Tranquility 13 Tranquility 14 Tranquility 15 Tranquility 16 Tranquility 17 Tranquility 18 Tranquility 19 Tranquility 20 Tranquility 21 Tranquility 22 ~ Please PM me straight away if you don't see your photo.
Re: TalkCSI LPS #1: Challenge 1 - Tranquility 11 - the image appear blurry and hazey, not sharp and in focus 3 - foreground is too dark, makes it hard to see the detail 15 - the movement of the water makes the rock appear blurry, the plants in the front shouldnt be sharp, the focus should be on the water so it doenst look blurred, but still. hope i did that right
Re: TalkCSI LPS #1: Challenge 1 - Tranquility 03 - Photo is too dark making it hard to see what is in the foreground. 13 - Too much sky, not enough sea - focus of the photo all on the bottom inch so not evenly proportioned. 01 - Too much foreground when the focus should be on the sea beyond. This was very hard to do as every photo was great in its own way. Great job everyone.
Re: TalkCSI LPS #1: Challenge 1 - Tranquility 3- photo looks too dark 1- too many things to focus on 11- photo looks blurry That was harder than I thought I feel so mean
Re: TalkCSI LPS #1: Challenge 1 - Tranquility 10: Horizon is not in a straight line (it is okay to be in a non-straight if it is the main purpose of the photo), Use the flash at broad daylight??? Why? Always try to use the flash as much as possible! (personal: and beside that I have no trainquil feeling with the photo. It gives me a around-the-house kinda feeling) 01: Blury photo! background is tranquil foreground isn't with al the lines in it ( the former building lines) 07: background is overexposed, back ground is underexposed. That big differece gets most used to get a more depressed subject... all the comments made are purely for building up your skills kinda critic reason. It is not personally!
Re: TalkCSI LPS #1: Challenge 1 - Tranquility Beautiful photos. It's interesting that a majority of the photos contain water. 03: The image is a little bit too dark, and slightly out of focus. 14: It took me a while to figure out what it was about this photo. While it is a pretty photo, it seems to contain some 'noise'. Scratches, spots, etc. It gives it a feel of being taken through a window. Having said that, I of course, have no idea if it was or not. 13: There is too much sky in this photo, making it seem plain, and without a 'focus'. In this instance, because the sky has such great colours towards the water, I'd say it should be about half and half, water and sky.
Re: TalkCSI LPS #1: Challenge 1 - Tranquility Everyone took wonderful pictures. It was difficult to decide, but alas, we have too. Here are my critiques: 3 - The foreground is too dark. Waiting until the light was higher in the sky would have worked better. Its difficult to tell that this was a lovely vineyard. 10 - Its a nice picture, but the composition is a bit off. You could have moved more to your right and removed some of the house and the toys in the back ground. 14 - Again, composition. By moving your lens a bit to the left you would have been able to remove the building on the right. That detracts from the image. There are scratches and spots on the image that detract from it. Was it taken through a window? If not, you should check your lens to make sure there isn't any damage to it. Great work everyone!
Re: TalkCSI LPS #1: Challenge 1 - Tranquility 03 Photo too dark. Hard to see what is in the photo. Often when you look around it's brigthter than you capture in a photo. Little more light and I'm sure it would have been a pretty photo. 12 I think the point has been sea and ships but the chains and dock (or bridge) takes all my attention. Few steps forward and just sails and sea. 01 The photo is somehow blurry overall
Re: TalkCSI LPS #1: Challenge 1 - Tranquility Wibble I've got a question a couple of questions. How long is voting open? After someone has already voted, can we PM them, if they haven't voted for ours, and ask them to critique ours privately? I've seen a couple of critiques that would be very helpful to me.
Re: TalkCSI LPS #1: Challenge 1 - Tranquility I didn't really consider this part when I joined up. It is so much harder to vote critically rather than for youre favourites - especially when the photos are all so good! However, needs must and all that... so, I vote: 13 - There's no main point of interest; too much sky; overall composition appears a little blurred. 03 - The foreground is too dark and it's difficult to make out detail. 15 - The water and rocks are a little blurry; it does not convey the theme "tranquility" to me. Sorry guys - they're all great photos! PS: Loads of you appear to live or holiday in gorgeous locations!
