Grade 'Raising Shane'

Stella and Danny go to the peep show murder, and it goes like this:
Tom: Welcome to peeping Tom's.
Stella:Let me guess,Tom?
Tom: The man, the myth.
Stella: The law, the order.

 

Woot! My hands were literally shaking, last night's ep was that intense. And that was despite the fact that the title gave away a lot and that I connected the dead junkie to Hawkes' frameup as soon as I saw his body. All I kept thinking was "Poor Sheldon!" As everyone's said already I loved the continuity in this episode as well as the introduction of some new intriguing developments. It's too bad the Shane Casey arc only lasted two episodes, but they were fantastic, unless of course he escapes again, lol. I was glad that Louie hasn't been forgotten. And I'm interested in seeing where Mac and Peyton are going now, although I don't really feel strongly for or against their relationship. I have to say that Peyton's grown on me, especially after she stuck up for Hawkes back in Murder Sings the Blues, so I felt pretty bad for her. Also, can I just say that Stella and Danny totally rocked last night?

I too found it strange that only Stella went to see Hawkes when he was released. detectdevotion has a good theory about that, which I tend to agree with.

Sorry, but the nitpicky NY-er in me just has to bring this up. Mac sends his team out to a body in Times Square, who happens to be the junkie in the peepshow booth. However, the cut scenes flash street signs for Prince and Mercer streets, which are definitely NOT in Times Square. I confirmed this while rewatching on InnerTube. This cross street is down in SoHo (passed it many times during my time at NYU). How could they bungle that? Although, it makes more sense to find that sort of establishment on the outskirts of Times Square as opposed to in the middle of ritzy SoHo. *shrug* Anyway, forgive my rant on that.

Now I will suffer from CSI:NY withdrawal, I think we'll be seeing repeats through all of December. There seems to be a trend now on network tv to split the season in two running big chunks of new episode followed by a "hiatus" and then another run of new eps straight through the end of the season.

 

I don't know if someone already posted this, but the name of the "movie" that Danny looked at in Peeping Tom's was originally supposed to be called "Saving Ryan's Privates".

I give this episode an A. It was really great.

 

Ok here are my thoughts on this episode. It was a brilliant episode but a couple of things about it bugged me though.

1. Everyone knows that Sheldon was on the hitlist of this brilliant guy is now at large. Surely he knows better than to go jogging that late at night? Even if he wasn't framed, he could have easily been killed!
2. Bearing all this in mind, why didn't ANYONE connect the dots sooner? Admittedly you can't remember details about every single case but surely when its something as important as your colleague's life on the line, it's bound to stand out in your mind isn't it? While dragging it out may have made it more dramatic, it certainly undermined their credibility for me.
3. And another thing. It took them like what, 10 minutes to arrive at the conclusion that he was framed? Come on! They 'KNOW' that Sheldon didn't do it. So baring sleepwalking, hypnosis or a split personality, what would any normal person think? Really, that scene between Danny, Mac and Stella? I was thinking 'these are the dumbest smart people I've ever seen.'
4. Mac was entirely too complacent about the waiter's story. I mean Shane had a gun! Would it have been too much of a stretch to think that he'd threatened the guy? Wouldn't that be a lesser stretch than thinking that Shane had somehow managed to get the key for the stairway door?
(on a side note...the waiter looked really familliar, was he in a previous episode or something?)

Other than that it was a really good episode.
I feel so sorry for Peyton. Firstly because I liked her. She was one of those strong, capable, intelligent women you see so little of on tv these days. While I can't blame Mac, I do feel for her. I just hope she guts it out at the ME's office. It would be really sad if she turned tail and ran simply because of a bad relationship.
I don't think there was enough of Don in this episode...but then again I never do. I mean the whole episode could have been about Don and I wouldn't have enough. (Can you tell I'm a bit obssessed?) I really liked how he interceded for Mac. I think that was very gutsy considering he's still dealing with the fallout from the arrest Mac made. I don't think that Don's sticking up for the CSIs all the time is going to go over well with the other cops but it'll be interesting to see how the writers develop that. (if they develop it at all)
Shane Casey...oh my god! The guy is slick! The previous murders proved he's intelligent but all this slipping money in pockets, phones in pockets, walking into jail. Damn. It was such a shame that all that turned out to be for nothing. In the end, the brother was guilty.
Could the end signify the beginning of a beautiful relationship between Hawkes and Stella? I hope not. I like Hawkes and I like Stella but I'm more of a Stella/Flack shipper myself. Again all we can do is wait and see.

Brilliant, brilliant episode.

 

Wow, I gave up Grey's to rewatch this. Talk about dedication! :lol:

While not completely perfect, this episode was pretty close to it. Looking back on other grading threads, it's rare to have so many people on this board grade an episode so uniformly positively. If *we* can agree so well, that's saying a lot.

Fierce!Stella was magnificent. She went toe-to-toe with the chief of police to defend the integrity of the "science geek" and I loved her for it. She looked like she was about to pop him in the eye. Her picking up Hawkes at Riker's was the perfect end note to this episode; the whole team showing up would have been cheesy and would have ruined it.

Mac - you moron!! Well, at least he didn't call Peyton "Claire" during sex. That might have ended in castration. She is an ME, I'm sure she could have made that cut cleaner than Lorena Bobbitt did.

I was very happy to see Mac stick up for Sheldon while still following the trail to get to conclusive evidence that proved innocence. It's all well and good for them to know that he would never commit a crime, but they still have to prove it.

That brings me to Lindsay, who did well in this outing. This episode proves to me that she belongs more in the lab than out in the field. She did do a good job of keeping it together and not being emotionally involved . If only we could see this more often.

Flack, thank you for setting aside your rancor at Mac and keeping a straight head in front of your captain. That could easily have damaged your credibility in the precinct, but it was a well-played display of loyalty.

Welcome back Danny! I'm glad you tore up your prescription for whatever it was that was keeping you in a fog this season. Pissy behavior? Check. Taking the time to look at the porno titles in the store? Classic. Impulsive behavior tempered by some maturity? Loved it. Can we go back to bed now?

And what a brilliant piece of acting done by Hill Harper. He was magnificent and you could feel the frustration boiling off of him when Casey was goading him at Riker's. And the look he gave Stella at the end made me all melty.

Can we have more episodes like this? PLEASE???!!!

Loved the whole Mac-and-Hawkes-locked-together scene and the shouting match after. I swear I was puddling the floor when Mac yelled "Are you threatening me?" at that Captain I felt faint, hahaha.

Surprise, surprise. Danny didn't annoy me at all! (Well, there's a first time for everything, as they say). I guess he has matured (good for him!). As Faylinn would say, my slashy senses were tingling when he was pretty much on top of what Sheldon was doing after hours

Flack was great as well, with the little we saw of him. Stella was fantastic, too. Loved the part where she was the one to chastise Danny.

Mac and Peyton? OhMyGod. It's no secret that I'm a big Mac!Whore but Mac? A definite noob in that hallway although I understand why he did that. And I felt so sorry for him when he called Peyton, Claire! Everytime I watch that scene, my heart plummets. I never thought I'd say this but poor Peyton

Sorry, I wasn't going to post again until I'd rewatched the episode, but that just made me chuckle.

 

Great episode. I'll be glad when Lindsay comes back full time, though.

 

I did forget one thing I wanted to say. The bouncer's mistake really isn't an uncommon thing. Though he wouldn't admit it, the stress of that type of situation does affect a person's memory. So does the suggestiveness of the matching clothes and the cuffed hands, like someone said somewhere along the line...about him looking like a suspect.

And I've heard way too many cases where a person picked out of a lineup or IDd by a witness later went free due to DNA...That's why they say eyewitness testimony is sooo unreliable. Sometimes they even begin to subconsciously insert the person's face into their memories and wind up remembering them as the perp even if they wern't actually the perp.

Oh and FlackAttack, you're not entirely right...a lot of reruns will air but in two weeks we get Silent Night, which I think is the actual last one before the break.

 

Re: the reruns, I think "People with Money" reruns next week, that's the Holly Golightly ep, isn't it? That was a great one, so at least we get a good rerun :lol:

 

So he didn't say "Shaving Private Ryan" then? Dammit, these pornos all sound alike :lol:.

Hm. A+. Peyton is gone! Yay! I laughed (hard) when Mac called her Claire. Shane was nice and scary (scarred for life). I was so surprised that his brother was guilty after all. Danny was intense. Flack stood up for his buddies. Stella defended the geeks. Too bad I guessed the ending right away.

 

No that was Not What It Looks Like. PWM is the season premier, the bungee sex one.
