CBS announced today a new contract extension for CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION star Ted Danson and that the U.S. and global hit series has been renewed for the 2013-2014 season. In addition, Academy Award nominee Elisabeth Shue (“Leaving Las Vegas”), original cast members George Eads, Jorja Fox, Eric Szmanda, Paul Guilfoyle and Robert David Hall along with Wallace Langham, Elisabeth Harnois, David Berman and Jon Wellner will also return next season.

“CSI is synonymous with CBS, and we are so proud of the series’ creative and commercial legacy and its continued success on our Network,” said Nina Tassler, President, CBS Entertainment. “The writers and producers have done an amazing job evolving CSI, reinventing the show around an incredible leading man in Ted Danson, the acclaimed Elisabeth Shue and our beloved and talented core of original cast members.”

“CSI is one of the top global franchises and is seen in almost every country in the world,” said David Stapf, President, CBS Television Studios. “It defined feature television and its whodunnit storytelling captured audiences since the day it premiered. We are fortunate to have had Carol Mendelsohn’s creative vision at the helm since the inception, as well as the talents of her partner Don McGill. The addition of Ted Danson has infused new energy into the series and we couldn’t be more thrilled with its continued worldwide success.”

Currently in its 13th season on CBS, CSI wins its Wednesday (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) time period in viewers (11.85m), adults 18-49 (2.9/08) and adults 25-54 (3.8/09). It is also a global ratings hit, earning the International TV Audience Award for the “most watched show in the world” for the third consecutive year, and fifth time in seven years.

Jerry Bruckheimer, Carol Mendelsohn, Anthony Zuiker, Don McGill, Jonathan Littman, Louis Milito, Ann Donahue, Cindy Chvatal and William Petersen are executive producers for CBS Television Studios and Entertainment AB Funding LLC in association with Jerry Bruckheimer Television.

Yeah I didnt doubt the original. but they wait too long for the other, even if it usually is decided around May.

We all knew CSI would be renewed, so this is not big news. And yet here again, TPTB are leaving us in limbo about CSI: NY. Why? It's not that hard to let fans know at the same time if both shows are renewed or not. Damn you, Nina Tassler!!!

Several reasons why NY hasn't been announced yet:

- the announcement for CSI's renewal coincides with Danson's contract extension, CBS might as well release both pieces of information and renew it now. This is probably why the news broke today and not later.

- Of CBS' shows, only NCIS, How I Met Your Mother, The Big Bang Theory and now CSI have been renewed thus far. It's not like last year where CBS had a mass renewal in one day or that they're deliberately keeping NY fans in the dark.

- CBS may not have come to a decision whether or not to renew it / contract negotiations with the cast.

Good to hear the show's been renewed, although I'm hardly surprised by it. What I am surprised about (and delighted too) is that everyone's going to be staying on for another year and we won't have to cross our fingers regarding contract negotiations for once! :D

Happy to hear this :) and that everyone is coming this early. I didn't expect to hear any casting news until later

So glad its coming back for another season, but I am also happy that they announce in advance that ALL the cast members are coming back too. Instead of having us wait and wonder if our faves are returning. :) Great news.
