The writers have a tendency to screw a lot of things up. I bet they screwed that up.
Unless Christine had another older brother (this being Stan), her last name is just a coincidence. The writers have a fondness for "re-using" names, and I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't even think of the connection to COTP. They don't exactly have a stellar reputation when it comes to paying attention to continuity. That said, 'Whitney' isn't exactly an uncommon last name.

Well, there are two "Stan Whitney"s listed as characters. One being the former Corporal, one being Christine's brother. I myself think the writers just messed things up and re-changed the background history of Mac and Christine so that they could create this connection between them. I don't believe in coincidences like that. I mean, they didn't even re-use the name "Whitney", but even the first name "Stan"... :wtf:

Has to be a mistake by the website and the editors of CSI:NY. Christine said Steven. The closed caption I had said Steven.

We will find out if they mention him again though.

EDIT: Unless Meagan made a mistake and said Steven when it was Stan and maybe at first it was Steven but they changed it very late and she forgot.

I think the original spoilers for the episode had her being the sister of his old Marine friend and then they changed it to being the sister of an old partner. Maybe the name never got changed on the IMDb site.

Ok, I take it all back. Just watched the sneak peak for the next ep in the CSI Files on set report, and (rest under the cut)
Mac specifically talks about her brother and calls him Stan. Now, as the Cpl Stan Whitney absolutely died in Beruit, this is sloppiness at its height.

I guess it's like with the opera tickets that replaced the beach ball. They wanted it to match with the storyline they created for 801 "Indelible", or totally forgot about the beach ball. They should hire some fans who really do pay attention to the continuity in order to avoid these inconsistencies

They may have forgotten about the beach ball or maybe Mac still has it.

But yeah, writers do seem to come up with things just for the storyline.

Couldn't they just both have had the same name? It'd be odd, I'll give that.

They do screw up names, though. Look at the whole Angell thing. Jessica/Jennifer.
